Just an idea. At our last event, we all exchanged cigars that were not in our humidors. As long as others are willing to trade up, go for it. We're not going to discourage it. If everyone brought a few sticks they were willing to part with that'd be a start. Let's avoid situations where Guantameras are offered in exchanged for Behikes. Trade like for like where possible.

Just an idea. A great idea, Maverick. Yeah, it's basically what happened last time with a few of us. Everyone brought in a number of cigars, generally more than were consumed. So, with any other stuff, some members just did some simple swaps and such. However, I'm not sure how much ribbing might be got from NC's being offered!
tmac77 Posted March 22, 2011 Posted March 22, 2011 However, I'm not sure how much ribbing might be got from NC's being offered! I actually have a few high end NC's in thier own desktop that I got from a B&M in the states a couple of years ago (moslty Opus X's). I can bring along a few if anyone would like. Give me a shout if interested and I'll bring some. Tom
maverickdrinker Posted March 22, 2011 Posted March 22, 2011 I'd be interested in trading for some opus X for sure. Will put up some sticks that I have to see if there is interest as well tonight.
tmac77 Posted March 22, 2011 Posted March 22, 2011 Not sure if we want to turn this into a thread proposing sticks to be traded at our event. It might get too confusing for us simpleton's. There are also some FOH rules on trades that may or may not apply here. Not really sure as I have never posted up any trades myself. Frank, Stephen, and Keith your thoughts?

As our Aussie friends are asleep at the moment I suggest we play it safe. Let's not turn the thread into a trading forum. That already exists. We've already mentioned that bringing extra sticks to trade is a good start. Some of you have made some overtures to each other, so perhaps move those communications over to PM's.

Frank, Stephen, and Keith your thoughts? It's up to the mods, but generally, specific trades are discussed via PM through a dedicated thread in the Trades area. But, for simplicity's sake, I'd say it might be okay to just simply list a 1/2 dozen or so that you're brining to smoke and/or trade for that night, and it's something that can be sorted out the night of. IE - if you're going to smoke 2, then bring 6, and have some options. It's easier, as it'll all be in person there, rather than sorting through mailing issues. But if you want to list some of what you're bringing, just as a general announcement, then that may be okay. Just not sorting out specific trades in open posts. Again, something you may wish to verify with mods, and/or to just leave specifics to PMs.
Puros Y Vino Posted March 23, 2011 Posted March 23, 2011 Greetings all. As you all know it is snowing today...in March!! So much for Spring. Toronto Forecast So far it looks like the high for Saturday will be -1C. So dress warm. There will be heaters on the rooftop patio so it won't be too bad. The Drake doesn't seem to mention a dress code but in general, casual wear and above. Jeans are fine. See you all there!
ckearns Posted March 23, 2011 Posted March 23, 2011 Just our luck with the weather eh?!? Not to worry. Nothing a couple stiff drinks can't fix. See you there!
Colt45 Posted March 23, 2011 Posted March 23, 2011 Hi guys, if you just want to mention you'll be bringing cigars to trade, I don't think it a problem to do so here. If you want to be specific about what you'll be bringing, and what you'll be looking for, perhaps keep it to PM. As has been mentioned, it's a get together of friends - if you've got stuff to share / trade, why not just bring it along - it usually works out. I hope you all have a great time - after a warm tease last week, we're back in the crap weather here as well, with snow coming tonight and tomorrow
Puros Y Vino Posted March 23, 2011 Posted March 23, 2011 Thanks for clarifying that Colt. The weather is depressing as hell. We're going to just light up more stogies to keep warm I guess. We'll post pictures of the debauchery that entails.

Appreciate the note of clarification/confirmation. We're hoping for a good time too - I just may have to bring my big Vector tri-pump lighter to keep us warm! (Just kidding, all - the Drake's heaters on their patio make it warm and cosy. Should be a great evening!)
Colt45 Posted March 24, 2011 Posted March 24, 2011 Looking forward to the pics (those you can share), and the tales
Puros Y Vino Posted March 25, 2011 Posted March 25, 2011 OK. Tomorrow is the day. We're expecting a sunny "high" of -3C . That sucks but at least the rooftop patio is covered on 3 sides and gas heaters will be in force. I plan on getting there for 4PM. I do hope that at least half of you will be able to make it for that time. Dinner reservations are for 6PM in the lounge area. Reservations are under my name "Frank". If the weather isn't too bad we'll hang out on the street level patio. Just look for the clouds of cigar smoke. Otherwise, make your way to the rooftop. If you have any questions, post to this thread or send me a PM. We had 13 confirmed but we're down to 12 now. Hope to see you all there!

Puros Y Vino Posted March 25, 2011 Posted March 25, 2011 Excellent! That makes four of us at 4PM. Everyone else look for the four cold happy cigar lovers.
tmac77 Posted March 25, 2011 Posted March 25, 2011 I'll be there for 4:00 ish Any chance of reserving a spot up on the roof at that time? Tom
Puros Y Vino Posted March 25, 2011 Posted March 25, 2011 I'll be there for 4:00 ishAny chance of reserving a spot up on the roof at that time? Tom I just called the Drake. They tend to ebb/flow with the weather. The street level patio won't be "open" in that they won't have servers out there but we can bring out our drinks. They haven't decided on the Skydeck opening time but I've asked them to open it earlier so that we can get up there. Anyone know anyone influential there?
canadianbeaver Posted March 26, 2011 Posted March 26, 2011 Has anyone tried Zino Platinum Shorty or Chubby's?? I love those things and would recommend them tonight so bring some along, maybe as many as you can share? :-)
Puros Y Vino Posted March 26, 2011 Posted March 26, 2011 See you all tonight. I'll be there at 4PM. Going offline now...
tmac77 Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 Had a great time at the Toronto gathering last night. It was awsome to meet everyone in person and put a face to the name and a name to the of what previously were only electronic fellow BOTL's. It was also really amazing to learn how much so many of us had in common outside the simple love of the leaf. A HUGE thanks to Frank, Keith and Steve for taking the initiative to start this post and get us all together! Early arrivals enjoyed a cigar with a beverage or two, well I had three as I was really thirsty, on the side patio in the sun prior to heading indoors for dinner. Afer a great dinner, and even better conversation, we headed outside on the rooftop patio for more cigars. The sun had by this time gone down and it was bloody cold out there but a fire and some propane heaters made it slightly more tolerable than it would have been otherwise. Well that and the adult beverages seemed to keep the cold at bay for a bit. I will try and get some pics up later. But suffice to say that we are a good looking bunch. For those that are interested, CanuckSARTech does not look anything like his avatar and, according to him, does not have a red maple leaf stamped on his tail. And yes Bundwallah does take of his mask off to eat and smoke cigars. Tom
