I am not normally a fan of the Habano 2000 varietal wrapper, and I confess that I bought this box without ever trying one. When I opened it up and saw the light tan wrapper staring back at me, I was a bit heartbroken.

Then, I lit one up, figuring that 2 years was old enough to at least foray into the box.

FLAVOR: After a few muted spicy puffs, a big and thick flavor profile rears up. I detect an exotic spice with slight nuts and cocoa. Moving towards the second third, I pick up the fruity taste - not sweet, but tastes very delicious while the other flavors intermingle. Towards the end, care must be taken to not smoke too fast or the flavor becomes unruly and harsh. The spice is unique and the smoke has a creamy mouthfeel.

I find it hard to discern specific flavors distinctly; they rather blend together in wonderful balance. Throughout the entire smoke, there is a flavor I have not been able to identify, but I have found it no where else and it is what draws me back to this cigar. I am also always amazed at how smooth the cigar is while providing a respectably large dose of nicotine.

BURN/CONSTRUCTION: I've smoked 5 or so from this box and they've all burned like champions. I keep them pegged at 65%. Rather firm roll, but it is easy to get satisfactory amounts of smoke with each draw.

VERDICT: Nowhere near what I normally smoke, but I am enjoying this box. Who knows? I may finish my last one down the road and find myself wishing I had more...

Most excellent review. RyJ No.4 has been one of those cigars that I've never pulled the trigger after all these years. After reading your experience...I foresee by bank account dwindling even lower! Thanks for your time.

I think there are still some good RyJs out there. I've really enjoyed the Wide Churchills...if you can get past the large ring guage, it is a really good smoke. As a matter of fact, I just had one in San Francisco a couple nights ago. Excellent.

I agree. Wide Churchills are quite an excellent cigar. Short Churchills and Dukes are also worthy smokes. Sadly, the regular Churchill has gone downhill. <_<

Thanks for the review. I've been curious about the more recent EX No.4's. I havent smoked in a few years. But that may change soon. I had a box of some really nice 04 that are now long gone.

Gods, these are smoking so good right now. I had one two nights ago and it was somewhat different than the normal. The filler wasn't quite as dark as the other sticks I've smoked so far. The smoke was DELICIOUS and the fruit note was a wine/grape note. Very, very good!
