With 350 pages and more than 500 images, published by Spanish editorial company Epicur, the text reflects all the details of this product, with a full history and anecdotes. For example, it narrates the origin of the word "Vitola", now employed to call the bound of habano cigars, and that in other times, it referred to the measure of canyon bullets. Or "Cigar", in English, that was originated in the valley of Toledo, Spain, with the association of the brown color of the cigars. The book shows a list of all the small factories in Cuba, or for the collectors, it shows the relation of the products appeared during different commemorations. Martinez Ruiz worked as an advisor of the president of international corporation Habanos S. A. up to 1998 that he went into retirement and went into a wide work as a writer and investigator of Cuban tobacco. With 72 years of age, this author in this moment stores four books: Habano, El Rey (Habano Cigar, the King), Las Grandes Fabricas de Habano (The Big Factories of Habano Cigar) and the Encyclopaedia of the Habano Cigar after 1959, to which the Great Book is joined. The author certifies that his work is characterized by accuracy, after an investigation in all the sources, and possible interviews. laficion Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 On my last conversation with Simon Chase, 2 weeks ago before his departure for the Festival, I asked him where would it be possible to get this book , since Simon collaborated with Adriano Martinez Ruis in publishing the work by supplying updates in the industry since Adriano has retired. Simon told me that the book should have come out for the holidays but because of marketing disputes over the pricing of the book in different outlets and LCDH 's. The book is still very difficult to find. Here is a link that may help those who would be interested in this fine book. http://www.lacasadelhabano.lu/index.php?8&...tt_products=268

laficion Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 Do we know what language the book is in? Trevor, The book is in English & Spanish.
ndtoronto Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 Prez, Will FOH be stocking these books in the near future?
jjp4 Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 If I read this correctly, the newest work looks like an expansion of "The Great Habano Cigar Book." Or is it a stand-alone edition? It's a little hard to tell what the focus of this book is...encyclopedia of current production or history? Regardless, it looks to be a fascinating read with info from a first-hand source.
laficion Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 I've just recieved my copy and the book is full of historical info and also info on today's marketing of the Habano.Very well updated. A great relaxing read with a cigar and a drink. Here are a few pics of my copy.
CanuckSARTech Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 I've just recieved my copy and the book is full of historical infoand also info on today's marketing of the Habano.Very well updated. A great relaxing read with a cigar and a drink. Here are a few pics of my copy... Thanks for the thoughts and the pics, Guy. That does help a bit - it's nice to actually see the updated Magnum 46 packaging shown in there. Now, I have a bit of a question. Aside from the slight bit of updating, I'm wondering if this book wouldn't maybe be a fair bit of an overlapping work. I have MRN's Encyclopaedia, and I have Rius' "The Great Habano Factories" (I know you have MRN's book, Guy, but do you have the Habano Factories one?) 'Cause I'm wondering - is this book a bit overlapping, as in, does it maybe just overlap between these other two books? Does it just have info from both of these already-available works, or is it a standalone work on it's own?
davidl Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 MRN Book is not available currently (unless you want to spend northwards of 400$), and this book is priced at the 150$ range - still extremely expensive in my opinion. There are virtually no good books on Havana's that are in current production, and are not ridiculously priced. I guess I will have to wait for the MRN book to be republished, which I hear should be happening anytime soon!
thechenman Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 Thanks for sharing Guy...very interested in obtaining a copy of this book.
mezro222 Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 I also managed to procure the book and its valuable! The list is 70 Euros at Huis Descamps (http://www.huisdescamps.be/), a tobacconist in Belgium. This is 30 to 40 Euros better than the few other sites that are stocking it. You can't order on line, but you can contact the shop keeper directly at [email protected] Her name is Valerie and reminder her that if its not shipping to Europe, VAT should be subtracted. This will bring the price down to ~65 Euros. Shipping is steep at 35 Euros to the US - close to her actual cost - but the sections on Habanos and the illustrations are without equal. If you liked his first two books, you'll really enjoy this one. Much more a scholarly work. I paid for it by sending my credit card info in two separate emails.
