stogieokie Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 I just jumped right in posting today and realized that I hadn't put up an intro thread. So here's a little about me . . . I'm new to the board, but have been familiar with the Czar crew for quite some time now. And a fine bunch they are too! Especially . . . well, you all know who I'm referring to. I wouldn't want to make the guys even more jealous of her . . . LOL!! I live in the US in Oklahoma (which is right above Texas) and people who live here are known as "Okies". We have a joke around here that the reason it's so windy is because Kansas blows and Texas sucks! I live in the land of tornadoes and have experienced several of them throughout my lifetime. My interests besides cigars are collecting Coors Beer advertising and local memorabilia, outdoor cooking (I own nine grills and one huge smoker), college football, attending my kids multitude of activities, good single barrel bourbon, and vintage Port. There's nothing I love more with a nice aged stick than a glass of nice Port. Unfortunately my other half won't allow me to have anything more than a 48 bottle wine cooler so the Port "collection" remains much smaller than I'd like for it to be . . . My favorite cigars include Mag46's, PLPC's, Monte 4's, HU Connie 1's, Fuente 858SG, PSD4's, and Diplo 4's. So if any of ya'll have any aged sticks you want to sell/trade hit me up!! My humidor is a Aristocrat MxTHC 26.5, much like you can see pictured here and is pretty much full--somewhere around 3,000 sticks at last count . . . but of course that hasn't slowed me down much! The quality of the boxes that Bob makes is absolutely incredible, as many here in the states will testify. I was lucky to find mine "used", though you would have never guessed it as the guy I got it from took meticulous care of it. I hope to get to know some of you better in the future. I've been on Cigar Family for a number of years under the handle Coors Collector and have noticed a few familiar faces here already.
snickers99 Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 Welcome from a relatively new FOH'er from Pennsylvania. I've been lusting after one of those Aristocrat humidors for some time now. Testing the waters for my wife's buy-in. Yours is both temperature and humidity controlled is it not? How are your sticks?
ZAZ Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 Awesome intro. Welcome to FOH and enjoy your stay! It sounds like a sweet humidor setup you have there. How about taking some pics of your humidor and sticks?
DustyOats Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 Welcome to the board from your neighbor to the east! What part of OK are you from?
stogieokie Posted January 21, 2011 Author Posted January 21, 2011 Welcome from a relatively new FOH'er from Pennsylvania. I've been lusting after one of those Aristocrat humidors for some time now. Testing the waters for my wife's buy-in. Yours is both temperature and humidity controlled is it not? How are your sticks? Yes, mine is both humidity and temperature controlled. It can easily get into triple digit temps here in the summer, along with very high humidity. That combination caused me to have repeated bug issues with my Pendergast cabinet since it didn't have cooling. It keeps the sticks in beautiful condition. Once you get a significant collection going you have to protect/insure the investment--part of the "sell" I used on my other half. Of course she didn't have a leg to stand on once I sold the Pendergast and an antique "fridgeador" conversion that nearly covered the cost of it. Bob's boxes can be a work of art as well as a technological wonder. Had I bought it new, I likely would have gotten something more plain (mine has raised crotch mahogany inserts in the doors) and opted for more space. It worked out well as my wife has NO problem with how it looks and I love how it works. I'll have to work on posting some pics.
thechenman Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 Nice set up there. You got a great find there. Haven't been able to sell my wife on a Staebell yet. Hopefully soon though, although I'm no where near 3K sticks yet. Welcome to FoH and enjoy the forum.
