Christmas 2010 cigar review - Bolivar CE LRE JAN09

July 2010 was the warmest month ever recorded here. To compensate that, weather gods made december 2010 the coldest december in 30 years. I live on 62* latitude. Here are some pictures from winter solstice (22th). In the middle of the day sun is low and doesn't give any warmth in -20 degrees of C weather.

I visited my inlaws in northern Finland, Lappland. These pictures are from boxing day (26th). My inlaws live beyond arctic circle and sun doesn't rise above the horizon during mid winter. It's again about -20* C.

This is taken in the morning around half past nine. The hills far away in the middle of the pic belong to Russia.

The pic is taken in noon facing south. This is the most (indirect) sunlight there is. Those are reindeer tracks in the middle of the picture.

The "sunset" just couple of hours later. The world turns blue before all light is gone.

Oh, the cigar? I'm back at home. I don't have a place to smoke indoors so if I'm going to curl up with a drink and a book I have to do it without a cigar. But yesterday, the weather got little bit warmer (only -5*C!!!) so I decided to pull out a new years eve cigar. I was brave (and stupid) enough to take a corona gorda size cigar, Bolivar CE LRE09 from Czar sampler. The cigar didn't give much to write a review about. The draw was tight, body went from medium to full. Flavours were mainly sweet cream with some tobacco, spice leather. Coffee was building up when cigar progressed. It would have been very enjoyable cigar if the weather wasn't so cold. I lasted an hour and a half before it became too cold. Still, it was a good cigar.

Like the photos. I experienced the opposite when in Archanglsk, Russia in late June & it never got dark. Very eerie feeling if not used to it. White nights.

It has definitely been my experience that very cold smoking conditions can sort of dull flavors, so it is possible that you would have gotten bolder taste from it if it were warmer where you were smoking (not that you can control the weather )

It might be. But mainly it's that it's difficult to concentrate on the finer nuances of cigar when you try to keep your fingers warm.
