mbrody Posted December 27, 2010 Posted December 27, 2010 This is not a full on review, just a quick set of notes from a JL4 Asia Pacific 2010 Regional Release. Pre-light - Very good construction, pleasant notes of tobacco/cedar, draw is a little on the open side. Started very smooth with an easy draw. Thankfully, not underfilled, just looser than I prefer. Light spices, cakey, small hints of cream, light leather, more similiar to a JL1 than the more direct JL2 in terms of flavor and onslaught (damn that's a cool word). Burn is razor sharp, held ash for very long lengths. Good volume of smoke and maintained a smooth character. Very reminischient of the SLR Pacifico, really with just a difference in the core flavors. This is a good comparison. Overall, this is a very nice smoke. Outstanding construction and burn for such a young cigar. No harsh spots; the tabacco tastes well aged already. My only complaint is that I would have preferred some more balls and/or complexity. Still, this gets a solid 89. +1 if you are looking for a smooth smoke that has a nice, easy going balance of flavors.
CanuckSARTech Posted December 27, 2010 Posted December 27, 2010 Nice set of notes, Mike. Well described - JLs are not generally on my radar, but you're making me hungry! Thanks for sharing!
mbrody Posted December 27, 2010 Author Posted December 27, 2010 My pleasure...this is definatley worth a try. Just do not go into it thinking you are going to get the profile of a recent JL2 (that has a reall nutsack if you ask me!). It is possible that I have underatted this cigar by a point or two, as I was looking for some more oomph. Let me reiterate, the construction and burn were outstanding, albeit just a little loose for my preference.
