SmokinPorn Posted November 25, 2010 Posted November 25, 2010 So I was taking my cigars out of my old wooden Humi and took the boxes they originally came in and decided to put them back in to store them in my cooler. The boxes were out in my closet but I recently put them in the cooler so I can put some humidity back in them. When I opened one of the boxes to put the cigars back in, I noticed a beatle like bug. There were no cigars in it at the time. I tossed the beatle and made sure there were no other bugs/beatles in there before putting my cigars inside. My first question is, should I put my cigars in the box knowing that there was a beatle in there that possibly hatched due to the heat? Second, if my boxes doesn't close all the way, is it still ok to put in the cooler? Lastly, I have never seen a cigar beatle before, so I was wondering what it looked like as far as size and color. Thanks.
rckymtn22 Posted November 25, 2010 Posted November 25, 2010 put them in the freezer for 3 days to kill an beetles or eggs in the cigars
bob25 Posted November 25, 2010 Posted November 25, 2010 The best way to kill them is like rckymtn22 as mentioned above. Make sure you put the box\cigars in a zip-lock bag before freezing them. Here how the beetle looks before her final stage http://www.insectscience.co.za/index.cfm?AID=1885886281
Dbone Posted November 29, 2010 Posted November 29, 2010 Yikes, beetles are no good! Luckly I've not had any, but it seems standard protocol is to freeze boxes within proximity. If in a humidor, suggested to wipe the insides with a damp cloth and alcohol. I don't have first hand experience with this but I'm sure if you search the forums or google you can find instructions from others who have gone through this. Good luck!
SmokinPorn Posted December 1, 2010 Author Posted December 1, 2010 Thanks for the advice. I just took it out and now have peace of mind that the beetles are gone.
