One of my all-time favorite smokes is the Cohiba Lancero, but as I have only been smoking cigars since 2005 I don't really have a knowledge of good years of cigars before then. I was wondering which box years were good from 1998 to the present. If you could help me out that would be great!

*There's an article in the Spring 2010 issue of European Cigar-Cult Journal (the one with Rocky Patel on the cover) and they're talking about the earliest Cohibas during the days of Avalina Laura. They're concentrating on the Lancero sizes too. They're saying that When Zino Davidoff left for the Dominican Republic the tobacco left behind for his own cigars was used in the newer Cohiba line that had just come out. So in essence the earliest Cohiba lanceros were actually Davidoff Cuban cigars. And those bands are the earliest ones with the larger black areas of the orange and black band with those white CIRCLES around it and not the little white squares that we know today. Maybe you may get lucky & find some of those - AUTHENTICS, prayerfully!!! I hope this helps some!

I have a spectacular box of Coronas Especiale from MEL SEP 08. Since that is the same blend as the Lancero but a bit shorter, I'd look for that.

Try and find late 2001 Lanceros. I have had a lot of luck with CLE NOV 01 and CLE AGO 01 box codes in particular.

Avoid the 5X5 cardboard packs.

Crossing my fingers on a MEL MAR 08 box I am sitting on! I am using every ounce to let these puppies sleep until their 3 year anniversary where I will take a dip and see how the box is doing!
