tdlfoto Posted October 9, 2010 Posted October 9, 2010 I don't inhale, but two nights ago I was outside on ym porch, watching my son play, and having a smoke (Partagas D4) as usual when I needed to respond to some shrieking rather abruptly. In the process I ended up inhaling. My son had to come to my rescue as it turned out. Holy fak!!! I almost threw up.
Leopolis Semper Fidelis Posted October 9, 2010 Author Posted October 9, 2010 Very interesting and informative feedback. Thank you, one and all. I always loved the aroma of lit cigars, well before starting to smoke them myself. I found, however, that tasting them was a totally different experience and that I could no longer appreciate the wonderful smell of a fine Havana at the same time, as what the palate detected dominated everything. Sometimes, I'm just happy to offer someone else a cigar and sniff away while he puffs it. Somehow, I think attempting to retrohale the smoke of a cigar I'm having would not duplicate the experience. Anyway, I fear that trying to master the art would make me ill.
dicko Posted October 9, 2010 Posted October 9, 2010 I retrohal through the nose but dont inhale as such into the lungs etc, no taste buds down there lol
T297 Posted October 10, 2010 Posted October 10, 2010 I've retrohaled a time or two. The first was with a mild Honduran the last was an Opus X. Haven't done it since. Oscar
Charltonc Posted October 10, 2010 Posted October 10, 2010 Smoke it how you like it, some like blow shits others like big logs.
CanuckSARTech Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 Errrh. No inhale for me. I used to be a cigarette smoker years ago, so for me, the not-inhaling with CC's was hard at first. But, turning 10 shades of green quickly helped me learn (even as a cigarette smoker at the time). Even now, years later, no inhaling. It's all about the flavour, so you only need it on your tongue. I feel that inhaled tobacco smoke only really feeds a nicotine addiction need - such as with cigarettes. What makes smoking Cuban cigars more refined to me is that it's about the flavour and taste enjoyment, not the addictive properties of tobacco, so there's no point in inhaling, IMO. Your taste buds and scent receptors are in your mouth and nose, not in your lungs. Also, I've found the retrohale doesn't really add anything beneficial for me. I've got a pretty darn good palette (I feel, and so I've been told - never had it tested though, that would be interesting maybe). So, for me, the taste buds working with the scent receptors work fine enough on their own without the retrohale. I find that only adds massively to the white/black/pink pepper profile awareness, which I already taste really well. I don't find that the retrohale adds anything extra to my reception of the various other tastes and flavours that may be there. But...to each his own. Nothing wrong with it if it adds to the experience in each person's individual experience.
baragh Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 I've found retrohaling adds a whole dimension for me, espeicially on the milder cigars. I agree with everyone on the exhaling though, there's no benefit for me, and it's a real health risk.
