Jean Clement has passed away

the Frenchman, Jean Clement, creator and maker of the brand "Juan Clemente" in the DR,

has just passed away in New Orleans while participating at the IPCPR cigar trade show.

Someone told him they "retired" James Suckling.

[seriously though, it's always sad when an industry giant passes, especially in this time of special interest groups assailing the industry.]

This man honestly was not given enough credit for the changes he spurred onward in the non-Cuban cigar industry and, indirectly, in the Cuban cigar industry.

That is unfortunate. Hopefully something was arranged at the trade show to honor him.

I always felt that his cigars were much better than several more popular Dominican brands.
