A weeks worth of Coronas Gordas.

When I have the time, Coronas Gordas have become a favorite. Lots of big beefy smoke and the blends seem most usually not as far of from the coronas and PCs in a given Marca that they are representative and nearly as favorable.

Early in the week I set aside a string of sticks I wanted to smoke and review for this free style revie, only I am lazy and not in the mood to post 5 individual reviews. So here is the week's worth of Coronas Gordas impressions from my brick like palate.

Sunday - Punch Black Prince - PUC AGO 01

Once again I lament the loss of a great cigar. Officially discontinued in 2002 they are getting harder to find and I see that I have been gifting more of these than smoking them lately. This box has a musty barn aroma that is very distinctive. The dimensions of this cigar are deep. Changing profiles from the sweet wet hay and musty earth flavors to some very distinctive spice that was more salty than sweet. These flavors alternated throughout the smoke.

Monday - Cohiba Siglo IV - USE NOV 08

Light grassy aromas when cold. Sweet honey and grassy flavors that built and then changed to hints of creamy coffee. Mmmmmmm. What can I say it was a Cohiba. Not an everyday pleasure but one to be enjoyed when you have the time to savor the subtle nuances.

Tuesday - SLR Serie A - ERP JUL 07

I love the aroma and flavor of the SLRs. This Serie A delivered a mouthful of chewy smoke that left a sweet sugar cane like aftertaste long after the nub was gone. Dried fruits dominated the sweeter flavors with hints of milk coffee coming thru from time to time in creamy mouth coating smoke.

Wednesday - Punch RS11 - SUA NOV 00

Another discontinued and great cigar. The RS11 exhibits a heartier flavor than the Black Prince. Toasted tobacco and chocolaty set of flavors dominate. Smooth and full of good smoke, I am glad I have a couple of Cabs put away.

Thursday - Rafael Gonzales CE - RSE ABR 01

What I get out of this cigar is bakers chocolate. That wispy flavor that coats your palate when somebody opens a cake mix in the room and the flavors fly through the air to be tasted across to the other side of the kitchen. Only delivered as if from a front loader. WOW!Another cigar I am going to miss as it was recently discontinued.

Wow I just realized that 60% of what I really enjoyed smoking this week have been discontinued by HSA. Not a policy judgment just and observation...

Peace dudes (and dudettes), enjoy your sticks!

Hi Sepp,

Thank you for taking the time to post your review. I like the idea of comparing the similar sizes from different makers side by side, as it were. Wonderful descriptions you gave for each smoke. I too am intrigued by the flavor profile of the SLR Serie A, and have it on my 'wants list'.

Thank you,

Curtiss

Sepp, enjoyed your reviews of my fave vitola. Not just one of them, but of five. Five marcas of some aged specimens to boot. Short and sweet with variety.

I have some stock of discontinued habanos as well and there is definitely mixed emotions when I smoke them.

I'm speaking of bliss, sadness, and loss. I am in bliss when I'm actually smoking it, I am sad when I am almost through with it, and a sense of loss after it's all over as I know that there is one less of its kind on this earth.
