mbrody Posted July 26, 2010 Posted July 26, 2010 SLR DC SOA Dec 08 This cigar was burned during a little Golf outting on a blistering hot and humid day. It is not the best place to focus on a review, but a great place to enjoy a large cigar. Shot a 111. Third time out this year. Enjoy the game, but will not obsess (yet). Larry in our 4some let me try his modified R9 Driver with some crazy shaft. It's like cheating with that thing...anyway, guess the course we played and I will send you a little care package of my current faves in my humi. One guess per person, and first hint is that it is within the area listed in my "location." Onto the review... She is a nice piece of work, aroma is of sweet tobacco. Pre-light draw has a little cedar and sweetness. Draw is perfect (just a little restriction). Check out the yellow ball! The opening is generally toasty tobacco with a medium body and some cedar and baking spice through the nose. Smoke is a little dry. Volume is plentifull. The cigar is good, but nothing is jumping out at me flavor wise. Maybe I'm paying too much attention to the cameraderie and crummy golf shots at this point. In the second third, I notice an improvement in flavor. Think Graham cracker with light baking spice and a smearing of honey and a touch of fruit. She drops down below medium. Very smooth. Enjoying it. [ At roughtly the last third, the flavor continues to build. Body is closer to medium. Now think of it as a graham cracker sandwich with spread honey and mixed with apricot jam. Really tasty. No major strength, just great smoke and flavor. OK, it's hotter than hell out. Getting close to the nub and I had to relight 2x. Just a little bitterness. Could be the conditions and the heat, but rather than burn my fingers, I'm going to pitch it and grab another smoke for the upcoming holes... Overall, a 88, with potential of 92 if those flavors continue to build and increase in complexity. The first third and close to the nub stole a few points from a very enjoyable smoke. I don't normally "chew" on my cigars, but for some reason while playing golf, I noticed I was chomping away!
negncic Posted July 26, 2010 Posted July 26, 2010 Nice Review. I have not had any luck with the SLR's. I have played quite a few courses on the Island but the pictures do not look familiar. I am going to guess Montauk Downs State Park.
