jawofboston Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 The Czar selected a top notch box of RyJ Churchills for me a few months ago. This is a cigar I've enjoyed over the years but good samples have been thin on the ground of late; this box reminds me of past gems. Enjoyed this with my father on a rainy Saturday, camped out in the garage watching the rain fall. At cold these are all sweet tobacco with a touch of coffee. Wrappers were extremely oily. Beautiful cigars, even though there was some schmutz on the band. The opening was a combination of sweet cream, a touch of pleasant acidity (almost a light vinegar). Draw was even with some resistance. Toward the end of the first third a little cedar started to emerge. Second third continued the cedar and cream. The burn remained sharp. Medium bodied. The cigar did start to loose some steam in the last third. It was still a good smoke, but the flavors became a tad muddles. There were some nice dark roasted coffee notes that peaked in toward the band. Humidity no doubt played a part in muffling some of the more distinct cedar and cream flavors of the opening. Overall, a very good cigar and great to see one so good. 89
