bunburyist Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 Hunters & Frankau New cigar released in the UK - not sure if it's UK only but 55 ring gauge - bosh! Oh dear. Still, if it's as good as the short churchill it'll probably do well.
typeapositive Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 I think the box-pressed short churchills have been real shi**y lately, only the tubos have been acceptable. Hopefully the "wides" will be better.
Ryan Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 The Wide Churchill is to be a worldwide release. They gave these out at the welcome night at this year's festival. That's the only one I smoked, it didn't do too much for me. The general impression on the night wasn't very positive either.

They were a tad underwhelming although the follow up dinner at El Templete (we left the Capitol building early) was sensational
JMH Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 A wide churchill? The hell? They're wide enough as it is already!
Ryan Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 Agreed Ryan. They were a tad underwhelming although the follow up dinner at El Templete (we left the Capitol building early) was sensational I must make it to the Templete next year. A lot of people left early that night. As for us, esconced by midnight in the usual spot..
SethLG Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 I was wondering about the RyJ wide churchill, and know I finally now. Rob is it worth a couple of sticks or just a dissapointment in general?
bunburyist Posted July 21, 2010 Author Posted July 21, 2010 just picked one up - this is the type of cigar you smoke if your run a cartel of some sort. will try to do a review today
El Presidente Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 this is the type of cigar you smoke if your run a cartel of some sort. I assume you bought a box Ours arrive next week. let us know what you think.
El Presidente Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 Seth they were too humid in Havana. Keep in mind it was raining during the week and the week prior. In order to have them ready and packaged for the function they would have been sitting around in ambient humidity of 90% for the best part of a week or more. We will see when they arrive and give them a fair tasting.
MIKA27 Posted July 22, 2010 Posted July 22, 2010 Slightly off topic but R&J related, I heard the R&J Dukes have been discontinued??
Colt45 Posted July 22, 2010 Posted July 22, 2010 Slightly off topic but R&J related, I heard the R&J Dukes have been discontinued?? The Duke is / was an EL ......
MIKA27 Posted July 22, 2010 Posted July 22, 2010 The Duke is / was an EL ...... Still, a rather short life for an EL?
messa Posted July 22, 2010 Posted July 22, 2010 Tried a Wide Churchill a week or so ago and was unimpressed. Very tight draw and muted flavors. Shorts are much better.
Colt45 Posted July 22, 2010 Posted July 22, 2010 Still, a rather short life for an EL? It was a 2009 release. And for me, this cigar's life could not have been short enough.
MontrealRon Posted July 22, 2010 Posted July 22, 2010 A cigar that is nearly as wide as it is long is a sick joke!
