One of the state-run television channels here that was covering the election of our new federal president interrupted the live broadcast for the cooking show 'Kitchen Battle'

in days gone by, the head of our national broadcaster, the ABC, was sir talbot duckmanton (from memory). i believe he had given strict instructions that the broadcast of the cricket was, under no circumstances, to be interrupted for anything.

finally, he relented.

if the prime minister was assasinated then the cricket could be interrupted to broadcast that. but only briefly and only if they waited for the end of the over.

makes you proud.

if you wonder if i'm serious, there is a good reason that the post office box in each state is/was? po box 9994 in each capital city's gpo. 99.94 was bradman's average.
