groza Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 I saw these for a buck a stick so I figured it would be worth the risk. I guess the worst case scenario would be that they are a bit bland after a decade of aging. Is it normal for "Revisado" boxes to have two warranty seals? Anyways, prepare for some really old C&Cs:
Colt45 Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 Let us know what you think when you've smoked a few.
maalouly Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 How old are these cigars? Cellophane is a bit odd on anything after embargo.
groza Posted July 14, 2010 Author Posted July 14, 2010 The box code on the Panetelas is LROO, which (according to Trevor's great informative website ) translates to December 1999, the Belindas are from December 2000. Unfortunately, smoking them will have to wait as they were literally baking in the delivery truck.
thechenman Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 Nice pick up. Would definitley like to hear about how they smoke...
samb Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 The extra age an em oughta really do well for the cigars.
groza Posted October 21, 2010 Author Posted October 21, 2010 Another box of really old smokes, machine-made La Flor De Cano Selectos ... decent amount of oil on the wrapper and nice smell nevertheless. I can't make any sense out of the factory/ date codethough , even after checking Trevor's site. It looks like CBOCSU I have to apologize for the bad lighting, the fall sun and wind forced me to take the pictures inside. As for my opinion on the Quintero Panatelas, they were well worth their money and are very nice C&C smokes with a simple but pleasant aroma and medium strength, ideal for sharing with non-smoking friends. Most of the Belinda Belvederes I've tried so far very horribly plugged because they put the same amount of tobacco into the tapered parts as into the straight parts, making them very tight.
#2 man Posted October 21, 2010 Posted October 21, 2010 plugged was a big issue then . I have a box of Partagas Churchills de Luxe from 01 that are the same way very frustrating! Thanks for the pictures btw this box has 3 warrantee seals the last being the XY code

Sounds like you may need to take a snip off the foot as well. I've had to do this before with some perfecto/figurados, and it can greatly help. This is very interesting. Curious to see how these are as you smoke more of them. I've always wondered how it would do to get some really cheap CCs like these, and let them sit for a decade, and see if they improve greatly, or remain... meh.

Oh, I've clipped off a centimeter on both ends and they still had a very tight draw. Maybe I just had bad luck with the Belveders, maybe producing a machine-made perfecto with a good draw is just difficult - I don't really care at this price. The Selectos and Panatelas, however, have proven to be very decent smokes for the money. They're nothing to meditate about but a good option for a cigar with a coffee, while going for a walk or to give out to (drunk) mooches.
