El Presidente Posted June 13, 2010 Posted June 13, 2010 Nothing better than getting up at 4am to watch a 4-0 drubbing The good news it that it could have been 7-0. Congrats to the Germans for a beautiful performance of near flawless Football. To the "Socceroos" I would suggest the next cup training camp (should we make it) be based in a ghetto and not a 5 star resort. Our renowned defensive toughness showed all the structural resolve of a marshmallow. As for clinical attack (never our strong point), we would have struggled to hit the side of a barn. At least we beat England in the Rugby Saturday night
MIKA27 Posted June 13, 2010 Posted June 13, 2010 I knew this was coming, Germany are a force on the field at best but I never imagined such a huge arse kicking!? Australia were all over the place, often leaving themselves wide open defensively with two or three Aussies on any one German but then leaving another unchecked. So frustrating! Where was the offense?! Do they know offense because I didn't see any. The worst bitter pill to swallow are the numerous 'typical' Australian excuses being made watching this mornings news shows etc. No excuses, I think Australia were over confident and under skilled. I think the Ghetto training camp is not such a bad idea Prez. In the end, the word Polverised sums the match to the letter. Aussies now scheduled to play Ghana (Who beat Serbia 1-0) and should they beat Ghana, they play Serbia who I believe are quite strong. Whilst I was going for Germany, I am Australian and hoped they at least scored a closer game.
Guest rob Posted June 13, 2010 Posted June 13, 2010 Thanks gents. Im glad I didnt get up at 4am for that, and appreciate your efforts
gersonmorelli Posted June 13, 2010 Posted June 13, 2010 Germany did play a lot better than I was expecting for such a boring soccer historically!! I guess the young German players are breaking this boring tradition that I haven't heard of since Beckenbauer's Germany in '74... However, I was expecting a little more from Australia. And I believe the Socceroos' Dutch manager is responsible for that. Australian team has always had an English way of playing and all of the sudden this Dutch guy wants to change it all. You can not teach a defensive system to use the offside line trap in such a short period. And that is why the Germans were always wide open through the sidelines with Lahm and Özil. Well congrats to the German team who made the best performance in the World Cup so far!

asmith Posted June 13, 2010 Posted June 13, 2010 Exactly where we want to be, this is all part of the master plan to throw the first game then clean up against Ghana and Serbia.
El Presidente Posted June 14, 2010 Author Posted June 14, 2010 Exactly where we want to be, this is all part of the master plan to throw the first game then clean up against Ghana and Serbia. The only thing I would be "cleaning up" is my room so I don't leave anything behind when I rush for the plane home next week
Ken Gargett Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 Aussies now scheduled to play Ghana (Who beat Serbia 1-0) and should they beat Ghana, they play Serbia who I believe are quite strong. we will play serbia whether or not we beat ghana but if we don't get at least a draw there, are gone - not tat we even deserve to be in south africa after that crap. spent our entire time trying to catch them offside and then bleating when we didn't. i kept think of that great moment in 'the full monty' which carlyle is trying to teach them to dance, going back and forth in unison, and they are hopeless and he finally says it is like the arsenal offside trap - all of a sudden they couyld all do it. perhaps our mob should go and watch the movie. now we have the whinging about cahill being sent off - would have made as much difference as a fly trying to stop a jumbo. same as last time when we spent 4 years whinging about the unfairness of the italian game despite them having a bloke ridiculously sent off and we not getting near their goal. i saw the pundits suggested we had a strong defence but might struggle to score. they got that half right. and rob, two things. first, i'd happily concede every game of soccer australia ever plays again if we can keep beating england at rugby. two, tape the thing and then watch it at a civilised hour. that way the fast forward button comes in real handy.
asmith Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 not that we even deserve to be in south africa after that crap. Ken, please don't waste all your venom on Australia there is so much of the tournament to go. New Zealand is due to play tomorrow night and I want you in full verbal flight.

Mr. Japan Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 Guys there is nothing better than smoking a cigar and sipping a ron while watching your team. If you win it's been all great otherwise you had a great smoke.
Ken Gargett Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 Guys there is nothing better than smoking a cigar and sipping a ron while watching your team. frenchkiwi Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 I can't pretend to have any sympathy for this aussie squad. Last WC I was mildly sympathetic but after seeing a few of them throwing their toys out of the cot and resorting to Maim-your-Man tackles after conceding just one goal to NZ in a warmup "friendly", they lost all appeal. A few of them seem to believe their own hype at home in their little goldfish bowl - welcome to the world stage. The Germans are looking on top of their game. But the Cherry on the Cake was seeing them prance around with John Travolta - hardly an inspiring Australian - just a couple of days out from the game. WTF was that all about? Does singing songs from a crap 70s musical with a has-been hollywood botoxite get you ready for a win-or-die game? I doubt that was their Dutch coach's idea. I agree with Rob here - send them to a township to train barefoot with local kids for the next few days - might help'em sort out their attitude. And drop a few of the underperforming senior players while you're at it. And now for NZ to play - the minnow of all minnows! They can lose every game as far as i care, as long as they play their hearts out in good spirit... they are way out of their league here. Same goes for the likes of North Korea. (except they should be allowed to defect at half-time!)
FlyingFossil Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 While I did expect that Germany would win I didnt expect that we would play so bad ... The better team won on the day cant take that away from them . Lots of people said that Balak is out, Germany had no chance this world cup I guess they better re think their opinions as I see Germany as a top contender among others .. We did what we could, but if the team do not train as a team you dont have a team, some of the other teams have been training for a long time They train as a unit unike us we continue to single out one or two players as our saviours. its not going to happen . I certainly hope that we do better next game , I for one we'll be cheering for them .. If not I'll back the Argies
sje Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 SPANKED just woke up from seeing Red Bull and Webber get spanked tactically (Great start from 7th to 2nd in 9 laps) and then stayed up to watch the Soccoroos get spanked tactically (4-0) Go Aussies Go, but do it will humility and pride (i heard some interviews with some overconfidence beaming through) maybe we need to play like 4 years ago, like we have to prove we belong rather than thinking we do just my 2c

(except they should be allowed to defect at half-time!) agreed. how embarassing to have our dutch coach apologising to kiwis for our poor play. bunch of overpaid self-important tossers. the travolta thing is because he is a qantas ambassador - has his own 747 and does lots of promo work for the stumbling wombat. so our players pounce about him (worse than kiwi russell and the south league team but at least he is genuinely passionate about that game). he was in sydney in the dressing room the night we qualified for the previous one so some connection but yes, try training instead of carrying on like third rate celebs. then you might not look like third rate soccer players. serve us right if the kiwis do better in this cup than us.
perfectform Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 I was secretly rooting for you all, but after seeing the Germans jump out 2-nil, I turned it. Seemed like Australia had their hands all over the German attackers holding and pulling, and if not they had them in the air complaining to the officials. Play the game and quit looking to get bailed out.
Ken Gargett Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 part of the report in the nyt. not surprisingly, they mentioned cahill off for a dangerous tackle but didn't suggest it anything other than deserved. The Germans’ victory was no surprise. Though the Australians reached the second round in the 2006 World Cup, they are an aging team without an established striker whose players generally earn their livings in second-tier leagues.
Nino Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 Guys there is nothing better than smoking a cigar and sipping a ron while watching your team. If you win it's been all great otherwise you had a great smoke. Yep, Gino, which is what I do in my pub these days. Not just is it a "smoking only" pub, not just does it offer a happy hour before the match BUT when Germany plays they serve free sausages during half-time and .......... all the free beer you can drink after any German victory Still curing a hangover now Will watch Italy-Paraguay there tonight - Buena suerte ! Nino Some images :

Mr. Japan Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 Nino , as usual your photo's bring joy and happiness.
MIKA27 Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 Im watching SBS HD who are broadcasting the Soccer world cup live, they've opted to show a few commercials and what is advertised, Sony Bravia televisions. What's hilarious is Tim Cahill in that commercial playing a bonus Playstation 3 with Worldcup 2010 game and it seems he knows how to kick a goal on a video game but not during this mornings live match. It's 'You had to be there' humor I guess.....
Nino Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 Great Photo's Nino Look forward to visiting you at your pub sometime soon! Anytime, Rob - the "smoking pub" is 500 meters from the "smoking pharmacy" where we can get a cigar, some aspirins and a few beers to swallow them from Andreas, the pharmacist. Maybe a stop-over on your next HAV trip. Cheers Nino PS : We also have a quite decent Italian "smoking restaurant" ..........
