Leopolis Semper Fidelis Posted June 13, 2010 Posted June 13, 2010 Let's get the ball rolling: My top choice would be the (now sadly discontinued) Dunhill Havana Club. Occupying the second spot: Romeo y Julieta Fabuloso (regrettably, no longer in production), which just beats the Montecristo A. At least, the latter is still available. If this topic has been covered previously, my apologies!
ChanceSchmerr Posted June 13, 2010 Posted June 13, 2010 1. Sancho Panza Sanchos 2. Sancho Panza Sanchos 3. Sancho Panza Sanchos When they are on, unbeatable. HdM Particulares is just far too light, and Monte A really disappointed me - but I've only had 1 before.
typeapositive Posted June 13, 2010 Posted June 13, 2010 Had a Sanchos last night - plugged. Got nine left in a box from 2000, hopefully some of them will be smokeable.
El Presidente Posted June 13, 2010 Posted June 13, 2010 Have had both delightful and horrendous A's and Sanchos. At its best I find the Sanchos a more interesting/complex cigar. Rarely smoke a cigar of this size but if I had to pick blind it would be a Sanchos.

Sadly, Plugs are endemic for 00-01 Sanchos in my experience. Thats why I said "when they are on". I had an 01 box that had to be returned to the LCDH it came from because they were essentially wooden Dowels. I have a great box of '99 Sanchos from Czar - they are smoking fantastic right now!
Wicky Posted June 13, 2010 Posted June 13, 2010 Tried a box of Particulares. Rolled so tight they were pretty much unsmokable. What little flavor I got wasn't too good. Awful cigars! I'll stick with DCs and Churchills.

HdM Particulares is just far too light, and Monte A really disappointed me - but I've only had 1 before. I've never tried Hoyo de Monterrey Particulares. If memory serves correctly, they weren't around for too long, and production ceased in the late 1980's. Maybe they were withdrawn because of their unpopularity. The Sancho Panza Sanchos aren't too bad. I've had a few in my time, but none was as good as the Montecristo A. All of the latter I've ever smoked have been consistently EXCELLENT, but still not quite on a par with the first two on my list. I suspect that the Sanchos are no longer being made.
Leopolis Semper Fidelis Posted June 14, 2010 Author Posted June 14, 2010 By the way, has anyone reading this ever smoked the renowned [Cuban] Davidoff 80 Aniversario?

thechenman Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 I would go with the Monte A over the Sanchos. Have had both good and ad experiences with both, but much prefer the flavors of the Mone A. That said, I have only smoke a few of each...so take it for what it is worth.

The Hoyo Particulares I'm speaking of are the Test Releases from 2002. It was an EL release in 2000/2001, and there was a trial run of Particulares made in 2002 to see if they would perform on the market. They didn't, probably due in part to very poor construction, which I can attest to and others probably as well. SP Sanchos were discontinued in 2006.
