Danashan Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 The best discussion on the topic I've seen so far. Warning: NCs and not French wine. http://www.stogiereview.com/2010/05/18/cig...narly-head-zin/
Yoruba Hacker Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 Appreciate it, but for some reason, I just don't enjoy wine with cigars, or vice versa.
anacostiakat Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 I am a bourbon drinker at heart. However, for health reasons I drink wine more now. But it is French wine mostly and Cuban cigars.
khomeinist Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 Thanks for sharing the video link. I don't necessarily agree with this pairing, but I tend to prefer port, late-harvest, or certain white whites as a complement to cigars. I agree with his general point that red wines typically contain an astringency that can limit a cigar's potential. I would think that a well-aged Pinot Noir might be nice with certain cigars. The tannins tend to be softer than those in a syrah or Cabernet blend. My Pinots tend to get drank with food, however, and I would rather take a coffee, port, armagnac, etc. with my late-night cigar. Personal preference caveat. Etc. I think I would have gone Alsatian with that particular cigar. But that is just me.
Danashan Posted May 20, 2010 Author Posted May 20, 2010 I'm not a big wine drinker with cigars, except port, myself, but I thought it was at least entertaining. khomeinist, You're way way way more sophisticated in capitalist excess than I am, I'm afraid. Way to go!
khomeinist Posted May 20, 2010 Posted May 20, 2010 Lol. Was that an ironic stab? Touché. I am an armchair revolutionary my friend. Epicurean all the way. Capitalist excess? You have no idea. Do not mistake my avatar for sincerity. And please don't take my comments as criticism of your post. I was attempting to provoke debate.

But, I think, that would be expected from an Israeli who grew up in USSR. Nothing personal. I did not take anything in your post as a criticism, which I would have had nothing against even if there was some, BTW. I just wanted to make it clear that I am not an expert in either wine, cigars or wine/cigar pairing, so I will not be offering any kind of educated opinion. I still think that video is the best available discussion on the topic I'v seen.
Freddy Posted May 20, 2010 Posted May 20, 2010 For me, a fruit-forward Napa Cab, or an aged tawny port
