mkz Posted May 12, 2010 Posted May 12, 2010 We have a few bottles of german white wines from various vintages gathering dust at home... Me and the wife mostly drink red wines so we´re not really shure what to do with these. Open up when friends come over? Give away as gifts? Sell? I guess the taste could be either crap or glorious if we decide to just open them up? After all thats what they were made for... Would love to hear some opinions about these from those of you fellas that knows a little bit about wines (Ken perhaps?) Good/crappy vintages? What can we expect if opening up? Syrup or vinegar??
Danashan Posted May 13, 2010 Posted May 13, 2010 Drink them, I say. My limited experience with German Riesling has been very positive, and I'm not talking big ticket wines here. They are usually very light and fruity and go great slightly chilled on a hot day. They might go well with a cigar, come to think of it
Ken Gargett Posted May 13, 2010 Posted May 13, 2010 don't know anything about that producer but much will depend on how they have been stored. if well, you might get some very pleasant surprises. from memory, 75 a very good vintage, though not as good as 76. the others a bit mixed. let us know how they go. auslese will have a fair level of sweetness so if well stored, might have aged superbly.

Thanks for the inputs! The last years they have been stored in a regular cellar with temps around 10-18 centigrade and about 60-80 RH. How they were stored before we got them remains a mystery. I´ll guess it like vintage cigars... hard to know how they were stored from day one... A crapshoot. We actually opened up another one (cant remember the name) a few years ago and it was sweet as hell. Lemonade almost, but still very enjoyable. Paired well with shrimps on a hot summer evening I remember. I´ll take the advice and start popping these during the upcoming summer! Will get back when I do...
