smokem
For whatever it's worth, I don't freeze. I did one time many years ago with a box on ncs. It may have been mites instead of beetles. I've been smoking for over ten years, mostly cubans over the last 4-5 and never had an outbreak. Knock on wood. My coolerdor is in the basement, so temps never exceed 70F, but my aristocrat on the main floor can easily go over 80F during the summer.
BobLobLaw
I also do not freeze. No problems yet (also knock on wood). I live in an apartment and my freezer is not or sufficient quality to do a deep freeze anyway. I do keep the AC on during the summer, make sure I close the shades when I am not in the home and keep the cigars in cooler areas (not in the bedroom which for some reason is at least 5 degrees warmer and also out of the path of window sunlight (in case I forget to close the shades or even when home) Those things combine to keep me at around 74F at the warmest. fugwumpy
I freeze everything...box and all. Well, sometimes I take one stick out before I freeze the rest I have a freezer in the basement that runs somewhere around -9deg F. I put them in for 7 days. Never had a problem, and hope to never have one in the future, but I just don't think it's worth taking the chance of not freezing. Just MHO. tsolomon
I don't freeze and I haven't had any problems yet, but my cigars seldom get above 68 F. Here's a link to an article that talks about freezing cigars and for how long and at what temperatures to kill everything. http://www.jstage.jst.go.jp/article/aez/41/1/87/_pdf
ChanceSchmerr
I don't freeze unless I am completely unsure of previous storage conditions. Stuff from czar - never freeze. But, 2 boxes of PSD4s from a friend's trip to Cuba? 3 day deep freeze for sure, because I don't know the storage conditions of the store he bought them in, nor the way he himself kept them between when he bought them and when I got them (he's not a cigar smoker). I've had mites and occasionally find the bastards in my humi now, but thats about it now.
