PADDYWHACK121272 Posted April 9, 2010 Share Posted April 9, 2010 Watched 'I am Cuba' last night (1964, director Mikhail Kalatozov). Well worth a look for anyone generally interested in Cuban culture (as most Habanophiles are I reckon). Some of the technical / visual work is amazing (long tracking shots etc..) and more than makes up for the fairly clunky propaganda aspects of the film. My companion was EXTREMELY unimpressed (too Godard or something). I was amused by her reaction. This film (like many post-colonial, new-wave inspired films) is INDEED quite clunky. But I am a lefty sorta guy and appreciate avant-guard attempts. Worth watching. I actually think more people need to see the Western stereotypes portrayed for pre-revolution Cuba. Agreed - definitely worth a watch....interesting glimpse of a cigar factory at one point during the funeral procession scene. my wife nodded-off watching it but then, apart form good rum and music, she does not really share my fascination with Cuba Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
