mm12 Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 This stick came from a gorgeous looking box. Great aroma, and a substantial oily sheen. I'd guess that this box is much better than what you typically see in these. Wrapper is colorado to colorado maduro, minimal veins, construction is perfect. Aroma at cold is sweet leather. Draw is excellent and at cold gives a mild tea flavor. Open: Medium-full in body with flavors of wood and vanilla. Moderate amounts of pepper both on the palate and through the nose. First Third: Medium bodied. The flavor profile is powdered sugar, citrus, and just a bit of spice built around a subtle woodsy core. Towards the end of the first third, the flavor turns toward bread with vanilla and powdered sugar. Second Third: Some of the citrus notes experienced earlier have returned, but the overall flavor is still bread/vanilla/sugar. The body eases back to just under medium. A few floral notes develop towards the end of the third. Final Third: The body is back up at medium and approaching medium full. The flavors are burnt sugar cane, black pepper and cream. There is a very nice balance of sweetness and spice here. 90.
Buch0 Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 Cheers for the review mate. These are quite underestimated by the sounds of things
thechenman Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 Nice...thanks for the review. Sounds like a cigar I'm going to have to try.
bassman Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 Been enjoying a box from 07. Mine are medium bodied, sweet & I swear taste like ginger. Don't think many smoke there. Rarely mentioned on the cigar boards.
Kangaroo495 Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 Smoked one over the long weekend. Surprisingly - this was the highlight of all the cigars I smoked in this period - and I usually HATE RyJ with a vengeance! The flavour was mellow and sweet, with a wet leather aroma. The flavour of the cigar reminded me of a strawberries & cream biscuit. Marshmallows too. It was just sweet, smooth and mellow the whole way. Increased in intensity, but the flavour stayed the same. A bit of cocoa and nuts in the final third, it seemed. It gets a 93. Even the burn was top notch - not a single touch up required. Plumes of smoke. Get it, smoke it!
Kangaroo495 Posted March 12, 2010 Posted March 12, 2010 Any idea of the age of the one you smoked Kanga? Though I didn't check under the box, almost all stock in my local is from 2006 (with rare exceptions coming from 2002 and 2008). As RyJ is a popular brand, I'd say it's either 2006 or possibly 2008.
