Does anyone know how well the SLR A's will age? I have the opportunity to get a few boxes from early 2000, but I haven't had too much luck with some of the older boxes.

I am not keen on 2000 vintage stuff, so I guess I'm a bad one to ask. But I'm aging a 50 cab of early 2003s and they are some of the best cigars in my humidor. At first they were strong and one dimensional, now they are refined, well-balanced and extremely complex.

I recently picked up another cab of Jan 08s, hoping they do just as well as the 03s in time.

To be honest every cigar is different, but I have never been too fussed about anything from that year. Someone who has smoked a lot of SLR's will be able to help you better though!

I love the SLR Series A but beware of those "vintage" 2000-2001 jobs. I got a box of the 2000s thinking I was getting some killer aged cigars and they were virtually all plugged. Go for the more recent stock on these smokes.

I don't know if that qualifies as vintage but I am just down to the last one of a box of SLR A (REC FEB 02). They have been excellent, smooth, complex, full of flavor.

SLR Series A's are my everyday go to cigars with the HDM Epicure No. 1's

I've been smoking them for, well, lets just say a VERY long time.

Only once did I take a break from the Series A , and that was in 2000 & 2001.

For me, no more to be said, it would take up too much space. There are still

a lot of stock from those years around, I WONDER WHY :)

The only advice I can give you is, Don't waste your good money on 2000 & 2001. ;)

Another vote to avoid 00 & 01 Serie A. 02s & 03s smoking very well, and last year I picked up 2 boxes made at the RyJ factory in April 97. Well stored & very tasty. Gotta say the couple late 08s i've tried are good too.

A few months ago, I went in for a two box "deal" on these very smokes.

Not only did I have to pay as much in duties as the cigars cost,

I must say that these were the absolute worst cigars I have ever purchased.

The plugged ones are better than those that draw!

Enough said.

There's a reason why there's so much stock available currently from that time frame.

While it lacks instant gratification, I'd be much more inclined to buy a more recent box and lay them down.

That's what I said about a box of 99 Regios- and I bought them in 99.

This brings up another topic though - Yes, it's pretty much gospel that cigars from 2000-01 have a high rate of plugged/unsmokeable cigars....but what choice do all of us newer cigar smokers just getting into CCs have, if we are trying to acquire cigars that have been discontinued in the last decade? While not the case for the Serie A in particular (since it's in regular production still) - I know for me, I keep looking for cigars that were discontinued in say 2006, IE Diplo 1-3, ERDM Tainos, RG Lonsdales, Party Coronas, SLR Lonsdales, SP Sanchos, SP Corona, SP Corona Gigantes, but all that's out there now is 2000-2001 stock (if at all!) Does that mean us relative newbies are screwed and missed the boat for better production in 2002-2006? If so.....what other choice do we have if we love these cigars than to roll the dice on a 2000/2001 box?
