Any regular travelers to the sunny island of Singapore that can offer some advice..

Have a friend moving to Sng soon and has a reasonably large collection of cigars that he wants to take with him..

But since they charge duties on all cigars that u may have in ur procession when entering..

He asked me what is the best way..

Just take a few boxes in each time undeclared or mail them to himself from Japan..

Or does he have to bit the bullet and pay the duties..

THanks

Hi, I am from Singapore and its best that he declare his cigars before entering. Custom here is very strict and if caught, he will have to pay much more.

If I am not wrong, the duties that he has to pay is only for the weight of the cigars without the boxes.

Even after paying the duties, the cigars will still be cheaper than buying locally.

Just for info, the fine for not declaring a packet of cigarettes is S$500 if I am not wrong.

Hope this helps.

Cheers

Look on Singapore's web site to see how many cigars you can bring in at a time. My guess is 50 like most countries so depends how often he goes back an forth.

I travel to Singapore every few months on business, and always carry about 30-40 cigars with me to consume on the trip.
