avenidaquinta Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 Hey Everyone, I know that the trend these days is towards thicker and thicker cigars, but I for one have never been a big fan of anything over a 46 gauge (torpedos excepted). Given this its especially sad to see Habanos S.A. discontinuing so many coronas and lonsdales from the various marcas. So out of all the few coronas still in regular production what are some of your favorite fuller bodied ones? Personally I used to love both the Bolivar and Partagas coronas (both of which sadly of course are no more). Cheers, - Rudy -
semery74 Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 These cigar are not all in production currently but are still available in great quantities. I've ranked them in descending order Bolivar Tubos No. 1 Sancho Panza Coronas Montecristo No. 3 Punch Coronas Vegas Robaina Familiares Romeo y Julieta Cedros Delux No. 1 Juan Lopez Coronas Romeo y Julieta Coronas Quai d' Orsay Coronas Claro
android Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 Love the SP coronas (not a full bodied smoke though)
semery74 Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 Love the SP coronas (not a full bodied smoke though) Out of several boxes they are medium to medium/full at best. Not big on flavor either but they are the most tannic cigar I have in my collection.
bassman Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 The strongest & most full bodied coronas are the Bolivar & Partagas. Both discontinues, but still available here & there. I've stocked up. You should too.
ChanceSchmerr Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 If the Sancho Panza Coronas is still available in great quantities, I'm definitely missing something, because I've been desperately searching for a reputable source of them for a couple of months and have found nothing so far. I'd love to try them as SP is one of my favorite marcas and I've never been able to find either of the Coronas or Corona Grandes. Please drop me a PM if you know where I can find some quality SP Coronas! Coronas recently overtook the Gran Corona (A-sized) and Lancero as my favorite cigar size. My ranking, of those I've tried (That can still be found).. 1. Diplomaticos #3 1a. Hoyo De Monterrey Le Hoyo du Roi 2. SLR Corona 3. Montecristo #3 4. Punch Corona 5. Juan Lopez Corona The Du Roi's not a Full Bodied Cigar, but you deny yourself a sweet treat if you pass it by.
Mel Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 Rudy it sure looks like you and I favor the same thing in a cigar. The Corona should be the bench mark size for every Marca and never discontinued. I love the Partagas and wish I had more. I do not have an answer to your question so will be watching your thread. I'd like to know where the Coronas are for the major brands. I do not consider SP, Dip, or JL major brands.

Major brand or not, it is one of the best cigars money can buy IMO. Medium/Full with strong lashes of chocolate & cocoa make for a treat, especially when construction is perfect 99% of the time.

I bought a cab of Partagas Coronas last year that are almost gone now (wonderful smoke) --- wish I had bought 2 cabs! - Rudy -

I agree with you Mel that the corona really is (or once was anyway) the benchmark cigar size. I've got nothing against some of these newer bigger sizes rolling out these days (they're not really my cup of tea, but if the people want the shorter fatter sizes so be it), but why get rid of the corona size in so many marcas --- some of the things Habanos S.A. does really make no sense to me. - Rudy -
Kangaroo495 Posted February 18, 2010 Posted February 18, 2010 I smoked a Monte 3 last night. It was melt in the mouth. The main flavours I picked up were coffee and cake and a real significant vanilla taste. But I did find the cigar quite mild. Thought it could've done with some more balls. I'd give it a 90/100. Certainly worth buying a box
