BTW, if you're looking for some decent Cuban music from Buenta Vista, I'd recommend getting your hands on "Afro-Cuban All Stars" and "Beuna Vista - Next Generation". Fantastic discs.

Polo Montanez excellent Cuban country side music. He died many years ago but his music lives on. He was from Pinar del Rio region where tobaco is grown. I remember my first trip to Cuba driving with some Norwegian and his driver. Polo's song "Monton de estrellas" driving through the mogotes and tobaco fields. What a a beautiful experience. Since Polo died the group got a new singer who is also great but not as good as the one and only Polo.

Ry Cooder was fined $100,000 fine, later reduced to $25,000, $25,000 by the US government for violating the Trading with the Enemy Act -in which Cuba is the only remaining prohibited country- and the musicians were allowed to accept only per diem fees for their US performances, including At Carnegie Hall

Cubans are terrorists, as we all know :)

Not quite true. Ry Cooder got in trouble after the BVSC movie when he returned to Cuba to produce an album by BVSC's guitarist. That's when he got fined. I believe it was bargained down to $10,000. That a lot of money. Ry is well know & respected in musician circles, but ain't exactly rich.
