  1. Now that's a fantastic review! The funny thing is I was only listening to the sound and for a few minutes I thought you guys were describing a fruit salad. The first time I smoked one of these in '05 it was absolutely amazing. It was like smoking an extremely smooth creamy espresso. I remember the coffee flavors coming through. But that "mouthy" (creamy) feel was very impressive. I have an '05 box sitting in my humidor and the last one I smoked 6 months ago was, sadly, just a little sick I think. Has anyone had boxes go sick for longer than a couple years? Thanks again for the review! When these VRs are "on" they are really good!
  2. Ah, Sam... always pushing the PSD4. They are mighty good, but my personal fav is an aged CoRo. Nirvana. The last few VR Famosos I've had have not measured up (unfortunately).
  3. excellent review Yossie! I had the pleasure of meeting Senor Taboada in TJ a few years ago. He handed me a freshly rolled Sublime, which to this day has been the strongest (and tastiest) cigar I've ever had. I made the mistake of walking into the shop with an empty stomach. Boy... did I learn a lesson that day. Thanks for allowing me the pleasure of reliving that memorable experience.
  4. I've been looking forward to the release of this cigar for some time. And because I failed in my attempts to get a box of the Monte Robusto EL 2001, I jumped at the chance to put my paws on a sample from this new release. I smoked this one after a big Prime Rib dinner on Tuesday night. Good company and sharing some fantastic cigars. My friend lit an Anejo 55, and I just couldn't resist torching this new Monte. WOW! Another fantastic cigar which will be absolutely classic in a few years. The construction was fantastic. Nice spicey prelight draw. Great leather/tobacco prelight nose. Draw was easy and smooth. Great smoke volume and razor-sharp burn with no corrections necessary. I tasted some distinct changes in this cigar. And a few puffs brought an unexpected smile to my face... sublime. I tasted some subtle sweetness here and there. Not too much power in this one, but an excellent body with flavour that suits my tastes perfectly. I expected this cigar to have some bitter tastes, but that didn't hit me while smoking this one. I took it down to the nub and the cigar got a tad hot, but it was by no means disappointing. Get a box and stash 'em away for a little time. Fantastic cigar! :-D
  5. » Nice cigar but are they costly? I heard they were very high.:-( Good point, Mel. All of the Taboada's are quite expensive; around $40 (US) per stick.
  6. WOW! I can tell you all now that I got my ass kicked by this thing! :-P A good friend and I made it into TJ to see Taboada roll and enjoy a cigar or two. What a unique and colorful man, Senor Taboada is. Just sitting and pressing forms and cutting leaf and rolling cigars. He handed a freshly-rolled 'Bolivar Sublime' to both of us. WOW! What a gift. Now I have to stop the story for a second to say: I had not eaten anything the entire day and it was not around 2:30pm. I say a Carls Jr. right next to the shop where we were walking in and I thought to myself, 'I should put something in my stomach before we go in.' But the excitement of seeing Taboada was greater than my need to fill my belly so I didn't get a bite. I think the image of the cigar says it all. The wrapper is a Corrojo. A gorgeous, rich reddish brown. This cigar is a 54 ring and 6.5 inches long. My experience with fresh, custom-rolled cigars started here. Construction...well, what can I say...it's a Taboada! The burn was flawless and only required a simple touch of a flame for a relight when I had mistakenly let the cigar go out. The smoke was dense, voluminous, and potent. Each draw made my lips want to smack together to taste every little bit of the smoke coming in. The overwhelming taste for me was just a pure tobacco taste with a strong taste of fresh earth. There was no bitterness yet there was a sweet taste that I cannot pinpoint. The tobacco was absolutely sublime. My friend finished his cigar to the nub and I looked down at mine and saw that I had a cigar roughly the size of a robusto still left!!! I couldn't believe how slowly I was smoking, but I'm not a fast smoker to begin with. I continued for another 45 minutes or so and then suggested we go for a bite to eat. When we got to the restaurant the wave of nicotine hit me really hard. And I started to sweat like someone dumped a bucket of water on me, seriously :-D After about 20 minutes I settled down and was able to eat more than crackers and cokes :-) I really don't consider myself a 'lightweight' when it comes to strong cigars, but I believe this Taboada is in a class by itself. I'm laughing about how I got beat up now, but I can tell you I won't smoke another Taboada unless it's on a full stomach. Oh...and I plan on smoking a couple bundles more! :-D
  7. Yup out of the jar dated OSU AGO 00. It's not really a secret that I'm a fan of Robustos afterall my first review was of a CoRo (my all-time favorite cigar). But these have been sitting long enough and I decided it was time to enjoy one as I made a drive with a friend to go pay a visit to Rodolfo Taboada in TJ. :-D This cigar is absolutely gorgeous. The construction is just perfect. Dense the entire length of the stick without any abnormalities. The wrapper is rich brown and slightly dusted with plume. I really didn't pay too much attention to the prelight experience as I was more interested in firing it up. WOW! What a fantastic aged-cigar experience. The most powerful taste I typically get from all cigars is tobacco. I don't mean to sound silly by saying that but I seriously like the way tobacco tastes. My palate isn't the best at detecting subtleties, but when I taste bitter or acrid the bells go off and the whistle sounds. I really don't care for extremely bitter and definitely not acrid. That being said... this Monte Millennium Robusto was perfect with a complete absence of any bitter or acrid taste... the tobacco taste I enjoyed was true and pure and delicious. Not too much spice, just a hint. A hint of some of flavours was present as well. Some earth, some leather perhaps I even got some cinnamon (something somewhat sweet). This was smoked last week so I'm writing this review with a little distance, but I recall the burn being very sharp, but I did have to perform a few relights. Relights mostly due to being in a moving vehicle with the windows cracked. And the fact that I was nursing on the end of the stick and not paying to close attention. What I took away from my experience with this cigar was how good tobacco can taste without any bitterness. For me a good clean tobacco taste is absolutely sublime. This cigar was the perfect travel companion on the road to see Senor Taboada. And then that starts a whole new story... :-D

  18. I've got to say that the CoRo is my favorite cigar. It seems I've had a CoRo in my hand during some of the best moments of my life. Like the night after I got engaged to my wife and lit up a CoRo after our celebratory dinner. So when I smoke a CoRo I really have high expectations. For me this is not an everyday smoke, but one I typically choose at certain special moments. That being said: Despite my better judgement I decided to try a (relatively) young one on just an ordinary day during the work week. No special event or circumstance to celebrate. Just a visit with a cigar I hold dear. Box code is MKO DIC 04. The construction is fantastic. I always enjoy the dense, consistent roll of these cigars. The wrapper is a smooth, medium brown (tan) but not visibly oily on the wrapper surface. Prelight nose is rich tobacco and leather. And the prelight taste is spice. On first light I could taste all of the elements that I so enjoy about the CoRo. Flavours of Spice, Leather, Tobacco and Earth... all very distinct, but lacking the complexity I typically enjoy in this vitola. The power of this cigar was not subtle as with some of the other sticks I've tried. Each draw was strong and this particular one got me a bit heady. It wasn't harsh at all (althought a few draws were slightly acrid/tannic), but the flavors and power seemed to be all very distinct showing potential complexity that just hasn't quite matured into the delicious beast it will one day become. I closed the box up and buried it in my cabinet. I'm looking forward to another try in a year.
  19. Thanks for the review... I tried my first #5 the other day as well. It was a gifted smoke so I have no box code info, but it was really tasty. Definitely worth the 25 minutes it took to smoke.
  20. Hello everyone: There are a lot of names I know here. That's got to be a good thing! Thanks to Stray for reccommending 'friends' to me. And thanks to Rob for hosting this site. I'm not too new to cigars, but I am new to this site and I look forward to sharing with you all. :-)
