exported to be blended and rolled elsewhere?

probably a better forum here than the shout box....

can anyone give a good answer to the question: does Cuba allow any cigar tobacco, premium grade or other wise to exported for rolling/blending in any other country?

Yes, I do believe so, at least to Spain, if not elsewhere.

I recall that certain Canary Islands cigars, years ago,

were said to be rolled or blended with Cuban tobacco.

Also, some of the production of ICT, the Cuban company that produces the declassified (formerly Habanos) machine-made cigars, is apparently now being made in Europe.

These would be the new 20-count boxes of Belinda, Cabanas, and Troya.

I think Cuba also exports bulk tobacco for cigarettes.

Of course, the best Vuelta Abajo tobaccos are never exported except as finished cigars.

i talked to a 5th avenue (german importer) this year and he told me that cuba doesnt sell their premium longfiller tobacco. they sell some short filler tobacco and there are a couple of cigars with cuban short filler.

A german cigar maker claimed that one of his cigars (laura chavin) includes cuban tobacco and hsa sued him.

For what I understand Cuba does not export premium tobacco, they export other lower quality ones to several places like Spain.

Off the record, they export premium tobacco to a cigar producer in Costa Rica, don't remember why there or for what... sorry...

Interesting. I was in Costa Rica in June and every tobacco shop I saw sold more Costa Rican cigars than Habanos, and they all claimed they were half Cuban tobacco and half Costa Rican tobacco. All were long-filler though, so I didn't know what to think of the claim.
