Kangaroo495 Posted October 27, 2009 Posted October 27, 2009 El Rey Del Mundo - Grandes de España Length: 192 RG: 38 Date: 2005 Box Code: Unknown Body: Light Pairing: NSW Cab Sav (can't remember the name... something "Creek", not Jacob's Creek) Appearance: Very thin, very fragile looking cigar. Wrapper was bumpy and a bit veiny. Elegant appearance. Construction: Slightly soft and spongy throughout the whole length. No inconsistencies at all. Aroma: The slightest barnyard aroma from both ends before and after cutting. Draw: Excellent pre-light draw. I knew this would be a ripper. Slight aniseed/tobacco taste. Smoke: Immediately gave off pillows of smoke, and the situation didn't change through the entire cigar. First Third: I knew this was going to be good. The first puff was the give away. A mouth full of cream and leather, and a nose full of pepper. I could detect chocolate and coffee flavours creeping in - similar to the Monte E2, but more complex. Second Third: Chocolate and coffee did not materialize as I'd expected. Instead they were taken over by a citrus flavour (orange, it seemed) and a sweet smoothness. Still pepper in the nose and a very delicious, delicate leather aroma. None the less, the chocolate and coffee could be detected in the background. Sort of like smoking a Jaffa - choc orange Final Third: This cigar was never ending. It retained its light/medium body perfectly and didn't get harsh. Chocolate and coffee disappeared. Just smooth tobacco, with citrus flavour. Burn: Touch-ups - ZERO Ash: Kept falling every 7 cm or so. I put that down to the fact that the cigar is very thin. Ash was a dark smudged grey Smoking Time: 1hr 30mins Conclusion: Have not been this impressed by a cigar in a long time. This is probably the best cigar I've smoked all year. Rating: 96/100
ksblazer Posted October 27, 2009 Posted October 27, 2009 Thanks for the review Kangaroo. This is one cigar that I really want to try. Every review about them has been positive.
MontrealRon Posted October 27, 2009 Posted October 27, 2009 I've always wanted to love this cigar. My only experience of it was a box, purchased in Cuba around 5 years ago. Think they were 01 or 02. The entire box varied from excessively tight to totally plugged. It kind of scared me off from further purchases. I'll be back in Cuba next month; should I see them again, I will go for it. Many thanks for the great review!!!
aavkk Posted October 27, 2009 Posted October 27, 2009 08's are great but scarce. grab em' if you can find them.
thechenman Posted October 27, 2009 Posted October 27, 2009 Great review Kanga...one more cigar to add to my to be purchased list. Thanks.
bassman Posted October 27, 2009 Posted October 27, 2009 This is a cigar I've never smoked- until today. About a month ago a friend sent me one BM NISU. Decided to fire it up after reading the review. Very mild at first, with toasty tobacco flavors. Perfect burn & draw. As the cigar burned it developed a little more strength, up to medium, but the flavor was pretty monolithic. Overall, a good but not especially distinctive cigar. Nothing there that would inspire me to buy a box.
Kangaroo495 Posted November 26, 2009 Author Posted November 26, 2009 Just had another one last night. Fully confirmed my previous review. Absolutely spectacular cigar. Melt in the mouth. Pushing 97/100
Arrow111 Posted November 26, 2009 Posted November 26, 2009 truly a great cigar and usually available in modest supply. 07s are already smoking very good but the 97's are outstanding. nice review.
