hagzo Posted November 8, 2005 Posted November 8, 2005 about three months ago i bought some two year old PSD#2 which had some lovely bloom on them. after transfering them to my own humdior they seem to have lost it. Any ideas why that is? Is it a bad sign? Keith
Colt45 Posted November 8, 2005 Posted November 8, 2005 » after transfering them to my own humdior they seem to have lost it. I've never heard of this happening. As bloom/plume is the essential oils working their way up to, and crystallizing on the cigar's surface, I don't know how it could dissapear. As an aside, I don't know why people get so excited about bloom - I know it's supposed to be the mark of a well kept cigar - but I prefer the oils to stay within the cigar, and try to keep temps down to help achieve this.

I've been trying to bunk or debunk the "aura" of bloom for a couple of years now. No one has yet convinced me exactly why a bloomed (plumed) cigar is better than one of the same marca/vitola without.

hagzo Posted November 16, 2005 Author Posted November 16, 2005 What do you think of them? I thought they were basically PSD#1 in a smaller format, which is good. I would post a proper review but i usually smoke cigars when i'm drunk (i know it's heresy) and can usually only remember if they were good or bad:-). I WILL post a review next time smoke one. Keith
rd123456789 Posted November 18, 2005 Posted November 18, 2005 2 years old with plume/bloom and went away after change of storage condition... sounds more like mold.
Ken Gargett Posted November 18, 2005 Posted November 18, 2005 i had heard rumours that it was possible to smoke them sober but where's the fun? » » I would post a proper review but i usually smoke cigars when i'm drunk (i » know it's heresy) and can usually only remember if they were good or » bad:-). » » I WILL post a review next time smoke one. » » Keith

Unfortunately they all seem to have burned up within a year after purchase (or been given away). Wish I still had one to smoke and review now. Though I have one or two PSD1, I have not smoked one of those yet. Like quite a few people I know, I have sworn off purchasing Edicions Limitada since the prices have gone so high. I find I get better enjoyment for my Euro for older, regular production cigars.
El Presidente Posted November 19, 2005 Posted November 19, 2005 It dies sound like a case of minor mould. Mould under the right conditions can spring up rather quickly. Bloom is not quite as common as is sometimes made out.
Guest cohiba Posted November 20, 2005 Posted November 20, 2005 i have a box of 1999 R & J Churchhill's with no sign of bloom on them. Very good cigar, the only difference i can tell from newer productions, is sooo smooth and NO aftertaste at all. They have almost mellowed to much for my taste. Under correct conditons, how long does bloom take to develope ?

I think you may have been thinking about the PSP #2 Serie P is different than Serie D

As far as I can tell from what I have read, no one really knows what conditions cause bloom to develop, and there are many, many excellent cigars stored under ideal conditions that never develop bloom. Nobody has yet convinced me that a bloom-y cigar is better than a non-bloom-y one of the same marca, vitola and age.
ehdg Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 Bloom Plume!! I'm really of the belief that 90% of the time folks mistake plume for mildew. :-P
