The Giants went from world beaters to also rans after Plax shot himself. If the can get the WR issue settled then it's Giants all the way.

They drafted Hakeem Nicks out of North Carolina who, by all accounts, is having a very good camp.

They also picked up Ramses Barden out of Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo who is 6'6", 230 lbs., and runs a 4.57 40. He may need a little time to get up to speed but his thing is deep threat/fade routes and with his size you damn well better put one on and one over him for coverage.

So far in training camp it looks like Smith, Hixon, and Moss at 1,2, and 3 with Manningham also looking good. My guess is that those 3 start the season as the primary targets with Manningham and Nicks rotating in regularly. I also think we'll see Bardem used here and there in specific plays just to see how he is progressing.

The existing top 3 may not be the best but, for now anyway, they are the best the Giants have. Losing Plax was a bummer but in some ways not having Toomer is worse. Amani was such a sure handed crossing, dump off, and 3rd down receiver. I think he was somewhat taken for granted in his later years but Eli always knew in the back of his mind that he had Toomer as a safety valve. Strangely, Smith, who is currently the Giants No.1 wideout, seems like the one most likely to end up as a Toomer-style receiver. Hopefully the new rookies will get up to speed quick and I think it's almost a given that Tight End Kevin Boss will continue to improve and play an integral role as a target for Eli.

Watching the G-Men go out with a whimper in the playoffs last year sucked but I think they are well positioned to own the NFC East this year. I'm not saying Superbowl but I see them winning the division again.
