perfectform Posted June 25, 2009 Posted June 25, 2009 I saw the "calling for Partagas reviews" thread was bumped, so I did a review before I realized the date of the original post Anyhow, it gave me an excuse to take some pics with my new camera. This guy was at 64 RH before being left out for another 18 hrs before smoking. Paired with a Tangueray Rangpur and Tonic. Beautifully constructed with a light golden brown wrapper which was silky smooth to the touch. Aroma at cold was very pungent barnyard/Cuban tobacco. Huge smoke volume produced. I'm becoming a true believer in the Cubans for excelling in small cigar production. Upon lighting I was hit with a beautiful opening of very classic and very very concentrated Partagas flavor. A mix of spice, toasted tobacco and little cameos of chocolate. Some citrus darting in every so often. This continued on through the first third. The Gin & Tonic made such a nice contrast to the bold flavors on a nice warm summer day. It reminded me of the first 898V I ever tried. I knew this would be an enjoyable cigar as I love the Partagas mark. Into the second third and this guy hits a lull. A bit of a burn problem, continued touch-ups and loss of that concentration I was getting in the first third. Beginning to go ho-hum. I was hoping for another change towards the end and I got it in spades. Back was that strong bold flavor from the first third. Unfortunately it kept wanting to go out on me, which made it start to turn a little harsh. I re-lit it about 3 times in the last third, then finally laid it down to rest forever. Overall this was a nice cigar that I would buy and smoke more of. I would rate it a rough 87-88...
jeromeroselli Posted June 25, 2009 Posted June 25, 2009 Im always amazed at how much flavor half coronas have. Nice review, I've got to get some of these.
El Presidente Posted June 25, 2009 Posted June 25, 2009 Thanks for the review of one of the most popular of Half Coronas The burn issues and flavour irregularities you noted can be put down tou youth at this time. Another 24 months and they should rectify leaving the best facets of the cigar to be enjoyed.
