pizzaguy Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 Description - Light chocolate brown wrapper, very fine bumpiness through wrapper, thin patchwork of fine veins Moderate box press, had 4 distinct sides. Beautiful triple cap, bunchin at foot looks excellent. Pretty light in my hands, almost solid during my pinch test. Pre- Light Aroma - Wrapper has very faint scent of cinnamon, milk chocolate, with just the tiniest presence of unground black peppercorns. Foot smells much stronger, sweet smells of cinnamon, light citrus, and some floral notes. Initial Draw - 10:08 am Very dry smoke, perfectly medium in body. Draw is on the more resistant side of my perfect range, basically it is exactly what i want. Amount of smoke produced isnt huge, but enough to coat the mouth. Exhaling smoke leaves moderately strong cedar and wood notes. Creaminess is present, cuts through any other flavors i am tasting, brings with it notes of sweet cinnamon and tobacco, almost like a lightly burnt cinnabon. Through the nose, no pepper, mostly pleasing wood notes, not strong at all. First Third - 10:10am Initial cedar notes recede as a french toast flavor of savory toasted bread, sugar, and cinnamon come to the forefront. Medium in body, perhaps just a step above that. Mouth is left feeling very clean and fresh, no over production of saliva. Smelling the smoke from the foot clears my sinuses, very bracing smoked wood aroma. Very silky creamy flavors coat my mouth. Second Third - 10:32am Creamy wood in spades. Sweet almost caramlized caramel taste in background. Through the nose, getting eye watering pepper. Smoke now has a faint old leather taste, those are the darker notes. White pepper and general smoky tobacco taste start to develop. Also some anise and 5 spice flavors on tip of tongue. Again through the nose, almost a silky caramel blended with sicuan peppercorns. Remains creamy and wonderfully thick in mouth. Final Third - 10:55am Intensification of all flavors in second third, wonderful thickness and richness to the smoke. Volume of smoke produced ramps up, but is never hot or bitter. No tannic flavors or tar at all. Finish - 11:18am Leaves a wonderfully sweet, woody, and slightly floral aftertaste for quite a while, beautiful flavors.
jeromeroselli Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 SLR may be the most underrated cuban brand. Nice review, thanks esp. loved the pics.
Padrino Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 Wow ! nice review ! even better pics ! Well done. (how you never burned your lips on that small nub i'll never know )
pizzaguy Posted June 24, 2009 Author Posted June 24, 2009 haha thats nothing, ill take a pic next time im smoking a cigar with a 35 ring gauge down to literally a centimeter of tobacco still left unburned.
El Presidente Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 That's one hell of a review Pizzaguy! The Serie A when "on" is simply a devine cigar. We will need to complete a video review of one shortly as we have been remiss. Thanks again!
bolivr Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 Great review thanks, love the Corona Gorda size smoke but never had these. Yet.
sli38 Posted June 27, 2009 Posted June 27, 2009 Great review thanks, love the Corona Gorda size smoke but never had these. Yet. I have a few boxes of these and they are very good deal for the $$....Nice review!!
rsrinivasan Posted June 28, 2009 Posted June 28, 2009 Nice review and great pics. Noticed that you use the Ronson lighter, I use these too but haven't had good luck with any of them lasting very long (I think the last one I bought only lasted for lighting 4 or 5 cigars). Just curious, how long do yours usually last and do you refill them?

ilgatto Posted June 29, 2009 Posted June 29, 2009 I bought two boxes of these and had bad luck. The box press was so pronounced that the draw is bad and the the flavor lacking. I luckily was able to trade them for a box of BCE's from '06. Wanted to like the Serie A's but it just isn't happening.
frenchkiwi Posted October 9, 2009 Posted October 9, 2009 Hmmm... Just ordered a box of these Serie As from '08 after having a single that was just beautiful (year unknown of course) Wondering if any Serie A smokers out there can tell me when they are generally best smoked? Plenty seem to think they're good young but i enjoyed the smooth creamy caramel of that single - certainly didnt have any ammonia or young tobacco leather - that suggested plenty of age... cheers!
Bartolomeo Posted October 9, 2009 Posted October 9, 2009 Here is a brief review of my SLR experience this week: SLR Serie A 2001 Smoked 10/5/09 Pre Draw was a lil tough, mild Draw was easy but w/ good resistance.......still not what I am used to Very tightly packed cigar, stuffed to the gills Perfect box pressed shape and wrapper condition Woody, slight peppery initial tastes…….tiny hint of licorice?? Guillotine cut Light to med flavor in first 1/3 Very tight ash Probably one of the best manufactured CC I have seen in a while Medium flavor in 2/3 Touch of caramel in 2/3 Pleasant aftertaste Last 1/3 seems to open up with flavor…hints of leather Finishes strong, with a hint of ammonia only at the very end b/c I smoked it to the nub 72 mins smoking time 8.75/10………..Would of been a 9.25 if the draw wasn’t like it is but then again I am probably not use to it Bart
