hansa Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 Ok, after a full year of reading this forum, I finally dare to file my first review. First of all because El Prez wanted Bolivar reviews, and that happens to be my favorite mark. I picked this one from my special Bolivar humidor (it's not that special, and not that big, but it only has Bolivars in it) : Bolivar Belicosos Finos, a nice little torpedo, released somewhere in the sixties, according to MRN. Length : 14cm Ring : 52 Box Code : POS ABR07 Very nice construction, oily wrapper, some small veins, perfectly packed with tabacco. Cutting the top of a torpedo is always a little guess, but went perfectly well. At cold it showed a draw which is perfect to me. I immediately could taste the unique Bolivar earthy notes. Lighting took a while, due to the small torch and the ring size. After the first few puffs you can immediately conclude that this is a full flavour cigar, earthy, spicy, wood... it has it all. But for a bolivar, it still kind of mild. Lots of smoke, and as a typical cuban, it burnt not so straight. The ash was very firm and not flaky. The final part even went a step up the full flavour cigar ladder : it became peppery, I could taste some dark chocolate (Belgian ?). Delicious ! I choose a 2001 Gran Reserva Rioja (Spain) as a companion, and they mixed perfectly. And the obligatory pictures : One little remark/question I want to make. I'm sure you afficionados know the answer : On the band of the Bolivar, it has a medal with an embossed script saying : "Leopold, Roi des Belge" (including a writing error : should have been "Roy des BelgeS"). Does anybody know the link between Bolivar and Belgium ? Please excuse my language, Belgians don't write English as well as they can drink beer !
jeromeroselli Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 That's the type of cigar that looks so good you feel bad about smoking it. Nice review!
Colt45 Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 Thanks for the review! I love Bolivar, and while I don't mind the BF, they are not my favorite of the line.
El Presidente Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 Thanks Hansa! The recent BBF's have been outstanding. As for the inscription on the band I believe Jose Candia answered that question some time ago. Will try to track the answer down for you. Cheers mate

Colt45 Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 We should have made you a moderator earlier I still can't believe it
hansa Posted June 24, 2009 Author Posted June 24, 2009 Thanks for checking this, guys ! I read a lot of guestimations... Lets just assume that Belgium was the capital of the tabacco world, and all big international shows were held here
jwm8592 Posted June 25, 2009 Posted June 25, 2009 Rob just curious, when you say the latest BBF's are outstanding, are you referring to 07, 08 or 09? Also between these and the Monte #2's which currently do you prefer & why? (others feel free to advise)
maalouly Posted June 25, 2009 Posted June 25, 2009 I can't believe I am yet to try a BF, I love Bolivar and on my way back home I will buy a box for sure. Are the 07's 08's smoking well?
