jfury76 Posted June 13, 2009 Posted June 13, 2009 Just wanted to provide a brief review of this very young stick from a dress box of 25. Color: a colorado claro bordering on claro. Some of the lightest wrappers that I have ever seen from this marca. Nice sheen to wrapper but not particularly oily. Construction: Cap is perfect with box press evident and firmly packed. Pre-light draw was free and full of barnyard flavors. First Third: This stick opened with very strong, young tobacco flavors. Produced dense and copious smoke volume with an excellent draw. No burn issues evident. Second Third: Strength gives way to spice, leather, and just a touch of the honey sweetness that is the hallmark of this stick. Final Third: More creamy flavors come in to play with the honey along with spice and a touch of fruit. After removing the band, the youth of this stick becomes particularly evident in another powerful rush of tobacco flavors that turn slightly acidic as I burnt my fingertips. Impression: A very nice smoke that will certainly improve with some age. I would give a slight edge to the HDM Epicure No. 2 for early smoking. Considering that I spent over an hour smoking this example, I would state that this box needs a wee bit more time before it settles down into a stellar experience.
jeromeroselli Posted June 18, 2009 Posted June 18, 2009 Love the Regios as well. Nice honey flavor, slight spice/earth, and excellent draw. Wrappers are not beautiful, but the stick as you say does hold up to the HDM2. As a matter of fact I prefer the SLR Regios to the Hoyo. Nice review

Nice review Jerome: I completely agree on the Regio which is one of my regular 'go-to' sticks. I have four cabs of 50 from 06-08 and, since I request a dark and oily wrapper, all of mine have them and they are gorgeous. If you can get a hold of some from early '08, you will not be disappointed.
jfury76 Posted July 6, 2009 Author Posted July 6, 2009 Thank you, Gentlemen, for your comments. I have smoked a few more from this box and I would concur with my previous thought that they need some rest. Of course, as an occasional smoker with only 2 desktop boxes, I generally smoke what I have, which generally means that my sticks only age for as long as it takes me to finish them off!
