Quai D'Orsay Gran Coronas PEL APR 02

After reading Padrino's review of the Coronas I got my appetite wetted for a Qd'O as well. It has been awhile since I visited this cigar as what remains of the box is burried in a loose ciger drawer with Bolivar Corona Gigantes (which I don't smoke often).

Since I smoked this cigar while driving I can't say that I can accurately discribe the nuances of the flavors of this cigar. I had many of finepoints well defined while driving but now, a day later, I can't say that I remember each individual nuance and flavor. I bothered to write the review just to encourage you to try the cigar. This cigar was stunning! I remember a milder opening which consisted of mosty earthy tones, consisting of peaty and musky flavors. This wonderfully constructed cigar gained not only strengh but complexity as it progressed. Thoughout my journey with this fine cigar I was treated to a colorful variation of spices and flavors which when blended defied description; they varied from dried fruit to garam masala and beyond.

My only regert is that I now have one less cigar to smoke! Without a multiple box supply of these cigars, when they are all gone, they will be missed.

Do yourself a favor and next time you buy a box or two; have Lisa toss in a couple of these fine cigars for you to sample. I can only hope that a newer vintage is both as refined and as extraordinary as this box of '02's.

There must be something about those '02 boxes. Spot on when you say the variation of spices and flavors which when blended defy description. Unfortunately as with almost every undiscovered gem within Habanos S.A. the Gran Corona was discontinued in 06

See if you can find a box of Panatelas. Even better than the Grand Coronas on my palate, and I love the Grand Coronas.

If you have not tried the Quai D'Orsay Imperiales (double corona format), I beg you to try them. Superb. Beautiful construction with a flawless claro wrapper. Spicey but not overly so.

I smoked through the last of these that I owned long ago. I smoke very, very few churchill and larger cigars these days. It is always nice hear input on a good cigar however. -P

I am appreciating these more and more Piggy. I use to thik that they were mild in body but I have had some absolute crackers (medium/full).

Lovely interplay of flavour. Need some time away as some fresher cigars have been pale in complexity but still show the lineal core of flavours which will develop over time.
