Fidel:The Untold Story

Recommended Posts

I just finished watching Fidel: The Untold Story (2002). This film is a documentary by director Estela Bravo and available on Netflix. It was bashed by the critics as lacking balance, with more hero worship and socialistic tripe than true documentary zeal but I found the work interesting. Now before anyone makes a rude comment about my liberal leaning let me say that I’m an avowed American businessman and veteran and believe in free enterprise and basic human rights. But you have to give Castro credit for universal health care and education which is difficult to match when compared to other developing countries. I also no not pretend to understand the burdens placed on this small island nation by colonial powers since Spain but any thinking American should consider such injustice before condemning the revolution or its marginalized outcome. The original film footage while slanted does comment on US foreign policy while saying something about Castro and hopefully the soon to be ended embargo. Take a look and judge for yourself. ~Sabersfriend
