Working on a refurbish on the MoNaH, old wood boats need some loving care every few years, and since it is such a beautiful weekend, and with some incentive from the Prez, I decided on a VR Unicos to help me get thru the afternoon.

The cigar looks great, I have always found these to be a classy looking smoke and the feel, band and construction make for a visual treat. Visual inspection showed good even color, no large veins with just a few bumps sprinkled in.

The boat is a mess but with a chair and glass of ice water with a touch of orange, I am loving the work and make sure I take a break now and then

The draw on the smoke was just a hair tight, but not uncomfortable, with a slight massage of the band area, all was perfect. The first half inch was not the greatest with some off flavors and not much else but it didnt take long to get into the groove.4a_VR_0061.jpg

The first third had plenty of spice and pepper, not overwhelming, but there and enjoyable. The ash was not beautiful, had dark patches and was clumpy, lost the first chunk at about 1.25". I think this is the one non positive thing that I noticed throughout - the ash was not impressive at all, loose, clumpy with lots of contrast.4_VR_0062.jpg

Thru the middle the pepper faded off and there were touches of nut and perhaps a floral taste, but this could have been caused by the huge blooming magnolia tree in the yard!

The burn was not 'perfect' but was never off enuf to bothered me, tho I do appreciate a smoke where the burn is flawless.

The final third was getting a bit strong with wood and leather notes.

At about 1.5 inches it was getting a bit hot for me, I'm sure it being 85 degrees out didnt help!

In all it was a very nice smoke, didnt taste young at all but I am sure some time will help even it out.

I do enjoy this brand very much and highly recommend anyone give it a try.

As I re-read my review I think I may focused on the negative points too much - I did not feel this while smoking and have to say I really enjoyed the cigar and think it has the goods to get even better with some months on it.

As I said dont be afraid to buy a box of these, it will not disappoint.

Thanks for the review and the great pics. Hope the boat gets SAILING!

I just had this a couple of days ago, DEC 08.

Cut a good 3/4 cm off the top and I was amazed by the first 2 thirds. Notes of chocolate, coffee, toast, mild to medium and a very good afternoon smoke.

Draw was very good. Last third was hot like what review reported.

Very good smoke. Highly recommend it.

love the boat ! work in progress... makes you feel at home.

And with cigars in the mix, that looks like one project that would almost be better off if it never ended... <_<
