b0rderman Posted April 14, 2009 Posted April 14, 2009 This was my first catch of the year, mid-February just outside of Breckenridge, CO. I had snowshoes in the current, on mossy rock for a quick snap with the iPhone cam...decent sized fish for the waters...that's a pretty large woolybugger in its mouth there, not sure on the exact hook size though. ...this fat 'bow was caught on the Colorado River near Kremmling 2 weeks ago. I am not good with fish weight but this thing was dense and thick...I thought I had a snag for a minute...caught it deep in a hole and the sucker just sat down there, stubborn as hell...I called my buddy over (was a bit excited, only fish of the day after a lot of fishing) and he snapped the shots...nothing here shows the mass of this thing really but here are a couple anyway. I hope my gorilla camera phoning improves as the season continues...
sliver54 Posted April 15, 2009 Posted April 15, 2009 Awesome, thanks for sharing. I'm still looking for my first catch of the year, striped bass season begins tomorrow here in NY and flats fishing should really heat up in a few weeks. Hopefully I'll have something to post sooner than later
FlyFishingDude Posted April 15, 2009 Posted April 15, 2009 Nice to see you guys are thawing out up there.
El Presidente Posted April 15, 2009 Posted April 15, 2009 Great shots! I am chewing at the bit to get out. The Tuna are running but I had to cancel two charters in the past week due to big swells and a ton of debris in the water as a result of some record rains in the area and a flushing of the river systems. .....any day now
b0rderman Posted April 16, 2009 Author Posted April 16, 2009 yeesh...we are going to get a foot or two of snow in the next ~24hrs...spring runoff is gonna be a b*tch! Does it have to get pretty dangerous for a charter to cancel for big swells?
Moglman Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 Spawn is going strong for the Rainbow's. The next month should be awesome! Mother's Day Caddis is coming up too!
b0rderman Posted April 16, 2009 Author Posted April 16, 2009 good point scott...gotta be mindful of those reds
FlyFishingDude Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 Nice to see you guys are thawing out up there. I take that back, you guys are suppose to get hammered tonight.....
Ken Gargett Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 have not fished for far too long and turning into such a tragic that am wearing fishing gear to go wine tasting. and found one more porr victim who has not seen my trout photos. surely, he is the last living person in the southeren hemisphere in that position. half your luck with those fish!
FlyFishingDude Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 jinxer! Hah, I just flew over the front range today, then called a friend in the "Springs" they're looking at a snow day tomorrow, so more than likely you're screwed......
b0rderman Posted June 23, 2009 Author Posted June 23, 2009 A bit embarrassed to toss this picture up, but I was so happy to be back out on the water again and I haven't been able to post any updates in my little thread here. Even though runoff is still pretty bad I managed to coax this little guy onto the hook. I had a bunch on that day, some pretty decent size but I only had un-barbed versions of the nymph they were liking that day and so I only landed a few. I wasn't worried about keeping a good bit of tension going with this little guy so I got him in close enough for me to snag my iphone and snap a shot, albeit a lousy one. Run-off is slowly but surely coming down to reasonable levels...I hope to get out a bunch in July, and restore my (imagined) reputation on here with crappy pictures of bigger fish edit: this was up near Breckenridge, CO
Miami101 Posted June 29, 2009 Posted June 29, 2009 Looks like a great trip. It is on my to do list to Fly Fish in Colorado. What about the bears????
El Presidente Posted June 29, 2009 Posted June 29, 2009 Looks like a great trip. It is on my to do list to Fly Fish in Colorado. What about the bears???? Relax Miami......they are like furry Crocs
b0rderman Posted June 29, 2009 Author Posted June 29, 2009 I saw a small brown bear last year near Estes Park, that will end your day and put you at the pub in a hurry. He was a goofy bastard though, stumbling through a ridge about 300yds away. So...I dunno about the bears, they are around for sure but I don't think they are anywhere as scary as crocs! I don't think my pale bony structure is very appetizing to them
Miami101 Posted July 4, 2009 Posted July 4, 2009 Bears, Croc, and Sharks...........................always fun on the water.
