Evo03 Posted March 29, 2009 Posted March 29, 2009 As I watched the video review for the Punch Punch, I was horrified when I realized I had a box of the same code. I also have a box from Sept. 07, that are quite good. I was hoping the Oct box would be comparable. At cold, draw was perfect. Cedar, and a little spice. First inch, a little charcoal, along with some sweetness. Marshmallows, Juicy Fruit gum – or something in between. Maybe some graham crackers. Some sour, oily flavors coming through. Like meat burning on a grill. But the sweetness is still there. To me, the cigar seems older than it is. It’s light in the hand, with a rough, dryish wrapper. Second 3rd. Some fruitiness is coming forward, but sourness is still there. The sourness isn’t the tannic kind that evolves into something good. It seems more like poor tobacco. But with some puffs the fruit/sweetness dominate, which makes it worth smoking. It seems like there’s some great tobacco in there. But also some bad, which is spoiling the show. Last third. Sweetness/sourness continue, also with some cedar. Changed to more of a cotton candy sweetness than fruit. Also some vegetable flavors, like cabbage or celery. Some of the better flavors remind me of a box of 2002 LGC #4. In the last couple inches, better flavors start to dominate. The last third ends up being best of all. How this cigar will evolve, I have no idea. I hope the sour, dirty, oily notes will dissipate. I will try another one in 6-9 months.
Ken Gargett Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 can you clarify? it is not clear to me if you have reviewed the same ones as the vid or the ones from sept 07. aslo, what is a grahams cracker?
Evo03 Posted March 30, 2009 Author Posted March 30, 2009 can you clarify? it is not clear to me if you have reviewed the same ones as the vid or the ones from sept 07.aslo, what is a grahams cracker? I reviewed one from October 07. But in my opinion, the September ones are much better. Graham crackers are a sweet cracker, but not as sweet as most cookies. I used to eat them as a kid. They're pretty common here in the States.
Colt45 Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 For what it's worth, in my opinion / experience, the flavors described - sour notes, a fruit juiciness, cotton candy sweetness - show a cigar that is percolating - evolving, in transition. And while we might not know how it will evolve, at least it showed you something. Thanks for the review. can you clarify? it is not clear to me if you have reviewed the same ones as the vid or the ones from sept 07.aslo, what is a grahams cracker? From the big type in the title, I took it to be a review of the OCT07. who's aslo?
Ken Gargett Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 From the big type in the title, I took it to be a review of the OCT07. who's aslo? fair point. but i am just used to reading the fine print and the title would, in most jurisdictions, be held to have no or little evidentiary value whatsoever other than as an indictation. which woulod have answered the question.
