Fuzz Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 Australian motoring personality Peter Wherrett passed away this week. Competed in the Bathurst 1000 during the 70's in Mazda's, Ford's and Alfa Romeos. Went on to present the long running ABC television series Torque and which later lead to a series on historical motorcars, Marque. Also opened the first post-license driver training school in Australia. After much personal turmoil and several divorces, Wherrett retired to live out his remaining years as a woman in the Lake acquarie region. Unfortunately not many locals were fooled as he was the only woman who could reverse park. http://www.smh.com.au/national/obituaries/...90324-98un.html
bolivr Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 Nice one Fuzz, I noticed this in the paper , thanks for posting. He sure was an interesting guy and probably started me on the road of loving cars from when I watched his show as a kid in the 70s. He had a very sensible approach to road safety - skilling drivers rather than fining them for driving 3 ks over the limit.
