This question was pondered when i meet anacostiakat last wednesday:

Does the Cuban government own the tobacco farms and factories or just the factories?

In reading about cuban tobacco, it sometimes seems like certain farms are independantly owned, specificaly Robaina's. I dont know if this is true, hence the first question. How is the structure set up with the farms and factories? Obviously, certain tobaccos go to certain factories, otherwise there would be a cuban mono-blend and not the variety availible today, so:

Isn't the tobacco from the farms sold to the factories with certain farms producing better tobacco? Doesn't better tobacco comand a better price? If so, then would one farm get paid more then another and doesn't that then violate some of the the principals of communisum, like equality?

have you read animal farm?

I have, so i understand the "some pigs are more equal then others". However, does the government own the farms, like i think they do? And if so, how does the buying/selling of tobaccos between the farms and the factories? Can someone outline to me how the system works in that regard?
