El Presidente Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 Wednesday dawned around midday. Through blood shot eyes and a hammering head I committed to an early night before 12. Need to show Arthur the El Moro castle so a quick Sandwich on the deck and off we go. Plan is to do the bottom half of Havana Vieja today and the top half Thursday. The old city looks remarkably well. There is some real money being poured into Havana Vieja and I was astounded at the progress that has been made just in the 6 months since I have been here last. Rumour is that the money is Venezuelan oil (contra which is sold back overseas). Arthur “Yamamoto” Kassos had both camera and video firing. I was impressed by the effort given he smoked a Monte 2 at the same time. Plaza de San Francisco, Plaza de Almas, Divan, Ambos Mundos, Bodega etc etc etc….A Havana “Bucket List if you will” We finished at the markets where we purchased some paintings and knick knacks. 6pm and headed back to the Nacional as we were carrying a serious load of crap ( ie Czar team gifts). Met in the lobby of the Nacional an hour later and was great to catch up again with Nino, Hans, Chris, Keith, Ian and Toby. Headed off to the Hotel Habana Libre for the launch of the new Trinidad Robusto “T” Typical Habanos sit down event. Beautiful girls handing out cigars, half decent food, too little wine. It is apparently ok to charge a fortune for these events and budget 2 glasses of wine per person….and then take away the wine glass from the table. I went downstairs to the bar and purchased another bottle + 2 glasses and brought it back up. The Trinidad Robusto “T” was well rolled and very very fresh. Full bodied opening of charcoal and chocolate before settling down to medium full with the charcoal leaving the scene. The opening third had a very good balance. Arthur was also enjoying his and “Yamamoto” filmed every single moment. He is down to about 4 million Cubans he has not met this week …..not bad he arrived Saturday. Overall the cigar was too fresh/overhumidified to really judge it. I think that it does have all the ingredients I am looking for in a good young cigar (some elements of complexity, true to marque, mongrel). At the half way point the cigar was proving a battle to stay alight. I pitched it with a third to go, did the round of the tables to say hello and then headed for the door. Arthur had a relatively early night and I followed him into the foyer where I ran into Toby. The remainder of the evening was from memory Salon Rojo, Gato Tueto, Crocodillo, Nacional Patio, Sunrise. I am starting to hit the wall and do need to have an early one soon. Arthur still has not seen El Moro.
gehrig24 Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 "Bottle and two glasses". One for your right hand and one for your left? The sights do sound amazing and hopefully someday......
jwm8592 Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 Sounds good El Pres., also sounds like the body and/or mind is about to give out. Well at least you can blame any mis-behavior on not being in my right mind due to work load put on me, while covering the festival week. Or something like that. The new robusto sounds promising, will be looking forward to video review back at he farm. Take care and get some rest!!
demiurgic Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 Ah, the perils of partying! Sounds like you'll need a week or two to recuperate back in Oz Great report! thanks!
FlyFishingDude Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 I love the "live at 5" reports......One of these days hopfully.

I rather enjoy Trini’s; sounds like these have potential. Poor Arthur, seems he has a better chance of seeing The Alamo!
terrantheman Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 Wow! A Trini robo does sound devine! I guess El Morro is out of the question for that poor bloke! Keep having fun Rob and can't wait till you are selling some of these fine beauties you have us all thirsting for.
Tampa1257 Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 "Running on Empty" must be your theme song!
Habanos2000 Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 Overall the cigar was too fresh/overhumidified to really judge it. How do you explain Cubans giving out cigars at the cigar event of the year in Havana that aren't properly humidified? That beats the hell out of me.
