DocRKS Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 Kangarilla Road Shiraz/Viognier - 2006 Vintage What a Delicious wine and a fantastic value - under $20 USD at my local. Usually, when I see the wine containng the Viognier addition, I have to look very hard to really notice it. In the Kangarilla, the Viognier addition plays significantly in the taste. It tones down some of the hot bite and adds an elegance to the 100% Shiraz wines I've tried from the 2006 Vintage. Here, there is an 8% Viognier component. This wine has a great mouth feel - rich and velvet-like with an ending of spicy black fruits. This is one of the best bangs for the buck I've had this month.... This wine easily drinks like a bottle costing twice as much - it's worth looking for at your wine shoppe.
Ken Gargett Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 kangarilla is a good little winery and always good value. probably not that little. i tend to find that usually 8% overbalances shiraz but each case is different and if it works, terrific. we had a lot of winemakers that went heavyhanded on viognier when they started using it but most now adjusting to what their vineyards do best. 06 an excellent vintage. i'd be grabbing stocks as 08 and 09 are going to struggle, as a generalisation.
