Bolismoker Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 Got my '08's on the way, hope they are as wonderful as has been described here.
PointSource Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 I had 10 Monte 2's from early 08 that were fantastic. However, from a box of 25, I've had about 6 or 7 Monte 4's that were downright awful.......
habone Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 I am new to this site and to CC's. The first box of cigars I bought were Monte#2's ...SEA JUN 08. I smoked 1 of them after they sat 1 month and I have to say it did not disappoint. The burn was perfect, construction good, and flavor was wonderful. I can understand the hype about CC's now.
nocsious Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 Well I just smoked one that was just ok, and not fantastic. It lacked the depth of flavor others have had.
bigfunkyg Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 I have had three boxes of Monte 2's. My most receot is a SEPT 07 (don't know the factory code off hand), and although it is almost gone I remember smoking those last summer and thinking to myself "this isn't the Monte 2 I remember". Draws were less than perfect and some of the flavours were much different that whay you normally expect and this was consistent throughout most of the box. Which is odd because the information that I was reading in this fourm says that the 07 were supposed to be better. Perhaps they could of stood for a bit more aging. My first two boxes were an 02 and 05 which were both impeccable , great draws, burns and flavours. In comparision as someone was mentioning the Monte 4 has some similar characteristics but the draw is much tighter. They are very recent boxes (OCT 08) so perhaps six months of aging will do them well. This all said, I agree about the vitola. Nothing else reeks more of machismo then smoking a torpedo with a big glass of single malt. Makes you fell "Like a Boss!" bigfunkyg

Similar experience here - also new to CCs and a 10 count dress box of MC #2's was my first purchase along with a 5 pack of Siglo III's. The first MC2 that I had was without a doubt the finest cigar I have ever smoked. Rich coffee, earth, & cocoa delivered in gobs of creamy smooth smoke and no matter how aggressively I smoked it, it never got harsh or bitter. Outstanding and memorable. I have smoked 4 or 5 since that first one though, and they have been a little across the board - more muted flavors, some construction issues (tunnelling), no bad cigars in the bunch but just not any as exemplary as the first. But consistent greatness is very hard to attain in anything. Despite the inconsistency they seem worth it to me, but I need to try many more CCs before I have real perspective on consistency. Box code is ROA FEB 07.
