Colt45 Posted December 14, 2008 Posted December 14, 2008 Construction: Weight feels very good, no knot at the head (good sign!), good looking foot bunch and a nice divot under the cap. Wrapper: Medium colorado, a bit leathery to the touch, with an uneven sheen of oil. Pre-light Aroma / Draw: Aroma is a mix of sweet and pungent. Draw is very good with little in the way of flavor. Draw / Burn: Grade A on both counts. Clouds of rich, dense smoke. Taste: Initial draws are all toasted tobacco and walnut. Slowly progressing to add a small helping of white pepper, with stewed fruits peeking in from the perimeter. Medium plus in body right from the start, with dense smoke that has a nice richness. Aroma early is of sweet perfume. Draw and burn are exemplary early on. Midway through the first third, the smoke takes on a decided creaminess in texture, with raisins coming to the fore, though overall the flavor intensity is on the subtle side, wrapping around a core of toasted tobacco. The middle third begins as a slow evolution of the first. A core of toasted tobacco, rich, dense, creamy smoke, light raisin fruit, and a bit of white pepper. A note of clove in the smoke at exhalation, with a rich finish which is creamy in texture. At midpoint things have continued on the same path. Smooth even flavor delivery which while on the subtle side, is still rather complex. Body has picked up a hair, and I note a hint of orange peel coming into the mix. Draw and burn continue to be perfect, and the richness of the smoke continues to entice. I do begin to sense some green notes on the finish, but at this point, just another flavor added to the palette, and not bothersome. Moving into the final third, things begin to become slightly disjointed, and I sense a battle brewing. Instead of being nicely integrated and balanced as they had been, flavors begin to float by themselves, with more green notes making a show. Savory cream versus bitter green. I try a purge, but the sharpness continues to escalate. Sweetness and cream make a final stand, but are overcome by the brashness of youth, and I set it down just before the band. Far from being disappointed by the ending, I now have a positive outlook of the future for this cigar. Score: 89 Much thanks to the Czar Crew
Guest rob Posted December 14, 2008 Posted December 14, 2008 I'm glad this cigar worked for ya Colt. Do you think the 07 release "work" better than the 06?
El Presidente Posted December 15, 2008 Posted December 15, 2008 Great review Colt and I am pleased that you are seeing glimpses of what this cigar has to offer. I believe they have a very bright future
Don Candido Posted December 15, 2008 Posted December 15, 2008 Thanks Colt. I am glad to get a picture on how these are progressing.
Colt45 Posted December 15, 2008 Author Posted December 15, 2008 I'm glad this cigar worked for ya Colt. Do you think the 07 release "work" better than the 06? Rob, in my particular case, yes. I'm thinking of cutting open one of the '06s, but I haven't been able to bring myself to do it as of yet.

So I am going to revisit one towards the end of next year. Maybe. . .
