My second from this box - first tried in August '07

Construction: Nicely constructed - everything seems in order.

Wrapper: Lightly mottled colorado. Dry and leathery to the touch with a few oily splotches.

Pre-light Aroma / Draw: Aroma of barnyard funk. Nice draw with a light tobacco taste.

Draw / Burn: Excellent draw. Rich, dense smoke volume. Burn off early, correcting itself and remaining true.

Very light gray ash showing good combustion.

Taste: First puffs rather nondescript - light cocoa and clean tobacco. Continues to stay the course. Body early is on the light

side of medium. Very nice draw with a flowery burn. Aroma is as it tastes - straightforward tobacco and cocoa.

Well into the first third, the song remains fairly the same. Smoke is very dense. Flavor does take on some savory creaminess,

with a hint of fruit here and there. But in the main, I find a core of clean tobacco. There is good depth on the palate, but the flavor itself is rather weak.

Into the mid third with little change. I start to get a sense of grass around the perimeter. Body remains near medium, with a

somewhat astringent finish. This is a totally different cigar than fifteen months ago - the sledge hammer seems to have turned

into a rubber mallet.

At the cigar's mid point, I start to get a sense of the underlying flavors, Dry honey and cocoa. A creamy texture and a hint

of raisin. A hint of grass on the finish. Aftertaste becomes a nice mixture of the above, albeit rather muted. And muted is

what this cigar seems to be to this point - underlying flavors buried beneath a blanket of clean, sweetish tobacco.

In the final third things start to get heavier, darker, greener, leaving an herbal tingle on the tip of the tongue. There is a

continual loss of any nuance of flavor as the youthful nature takes over. I feel these still have quite a bit of maturing to do.

See you in another year or so.

Score: 88

I have not had one in a while, but early on I loved these smokes. I still have high hopes for them.

DC, there are many members who enjoy this cigar. I recall when they were first released, that some deemed this a contender

for cigar of the ages. I'm pleasantly surprised by their evolution to date, but my personal feeling is that these may end up being

very good cigars, but not necessarily truly special. That is of course subjective, and only time will tell.

I was reminded I have these, and decided to smoke one because of the recent Cuaba EL discussions - reminded me so much

of the early Cohiba Pirámide 06 discussions. For lack of a better way to put it, I find myself a little skeptical re the Cuaba,

even though I trust and value the opinions of the members here.

And though I'm hesitant to rehash certain discussions, I can't help but once again look at the whole EL phenomenon. While it's

nice to have a cigar in a size not normally produced, I have to question whether or not they deserve the premium they command

above the best of the regular production cigars.

Excellent review Colt.

Interestingly we did our video review of the Cuaba Piramide LE yesterday which I hope to post later today. We also reviewed the Partagas SD5 LE.

Re the Cohiba Pirimide, it would be a great shame if the power of this cigar goes missing in the longterm. i can live with medium, but light medium...no. The cigars strength was its darkness, its bitter cooking chocolate core and dried fruits.

It stood out from other LE's and joined the Cohiba Double Corona almost in a class of their own.

Looking forward to some more reviews on this cigar. It would be good to have 4-5 reviews from different boxes and different tasters to see if we can get a conclusive handle on where they are at (and maybe a hint as to where they are going).

Thanks for the review on these Colt. You were kind enough to send me one of these some months ago, I smoked it and failed to post a review promptly. It was a very generous gift and allowed me to try one without cracking my own box open. While the details have escaped me, I remember thinking that, as with most ELs I have smoked, I didn't really find this cigar to be one that curled my toes or was worth the premium in price... I have a box that is untouched and since the box of 10 is somewhere in the cost range to a box of 25 Cohiba Robustos, I would much rather invest in the COROs. Maybe some of us are just EL people.

PT, we spoke very briefly about this cigar while you were in Boston. At some point when you have time, I'd be interested to

know what box code you have.

Hi Prof,

Like Colt said above, I would like to know your box code too, if you have it. I think I have box codes for most of mine. I have a few boxes sent from other retailers who would not send boxes/bands. I never thought to ask those retailers for my box codes.

As far as my impression of this smoke, I have only had examples that I would rate very highly. I have it marked for one of the potential great smokes of this era. It could just be variations in our tastes, but I wonder if there are better and worse boxes. Maybe we should pay attention.

Cheers,

DC

Colt, the one that I had was one that you sent me, so I don't know the code.

The untouched box that I have is POS DIC 06.
