greenpimp Posted September 12, 2008 Posted September 12, 2008 Montecristo Tubo EFA SEP05 Smell prelight of cedar chocolate and a bit of funk. Reddish tinged medium Colorado, some veining. A bit homely, “rustic” I have heard others describe a cigar like this. However I do not deduct for appearance unless it is dreadful (though I may add a point if it is gorgeous,) and I have had some wonderful cigars that looked like they ran out of capa when they rolled it. Draw prelight firmish side of perfect, with the flavor of straight tobacco with a little spice. Starts out lit with some pepper, coffee. Mild-medium, with pepper on the lips after. Cream with increasing amounts of pepper as it quickly strengthens to medium-medium full. Spicy, long finish on the palate. Perhaps should have had this after dinner instead of afternoon with coffee. Excellent spicy Montecristo flavors, like a Monte 2 with Serrano chilies. Good amount of smoke, with adequate burn that required no touchups. Smoke smells somewhat sweet. Graham cracker note but again with the hot pepper baseline. Ash thick and striated and really likes to hang on. Second third shows some rich chocolate notes and slight subsiding of the hot pepper. The earthy kind of chocolate, dark with depth. Quite tasty. Ash finally fell. Black pepper mixes with the other elements and this is really a rather dark, brooding Montecristo. Power and strong flavors and still some rough edges, but I like it. And every few puffs there is a sort of a clearing, with some lighter creamier characteristics in the dark coffee, a hint of sweetness that in other Montecristos I might taste as that “graham cracker” thing. Final third showed cedar and an intensified Montecristo profile to emerge, quite strong. Full bodied, slightly angry. Almost like a Montecristo Gold Medal. And I am now full of nicotine, energy, and strange ideas. Tastes like a spicy s’more with dark chocolate, the marshmallows cooked over the campfire and lending an earthy smoke to the graham cracker. Smoke volume high. The burn continues to be erratic but self-correcting. Overroasted nuts and chocolate and earth. A bit of sweetness to the chocolate at the end and I am sorry to let it go, but full of hope for the rest of the box in the future. This was a cigar that, again, left me quite full. Would give it a 92 after some thought.
The Wise Old owl Posted September 12, 2008 Posted September 12, 2008 » Montecristo Tubo EFA SEP05 I've got a 10 ct. box of SigloVI with that same code that I haven't gotten into yet. Your Montes sound so good, now I'm tempted! Thanks for the review! Anyone happen to know what factory EFA represented?
