Smithy, looks great! I'm glad to see you've not been overworked since returning to Brisbane.

I assume you were fishing for blacks? Were you trolling live or dead bait, or lures?

Or bait and switch? Thanks for the pics

P.S. we really need a fishing pic forum

We ran dead baits, mullet and gar. We also then through live baits at them when they came near the baits. The live baits were bonitos and hooked up a couple. They were black marlin and Spanish mackerel.

I'm taking your lead Colt of not working too hard ;-)

» Cool post, looks like a great time.

» Spot any Great Whites breaching?

The water is too warm for them monsters of the sea, we did see a couple of Humpback whale having good play. I could almost hear Ayala saying how good a couple of whale steaks would taste on the BBQ.

Well after taking a couple of weeks off to relax I felt that I needed to be inspired and so went out with a coupe of mates for two days of marlin fishing.

So I packed my cigars a copy of 'The old man and the sea' and headed north to the warmer waters and the marlin fishing grounds. Rob was dirty that he didn't get an invite but then realised that his fishing secrets may be exposed, so wished me luck on my journey.

Teamed up with four other mates and set sail for the open oceans. The weather wasn't the calmest for us, but that only slowed the amount of beer we were to consume.

First was a quick stop 20miles off shore for a school of mackerel that were passing by which was all fun and only kept enough for a feed that night. Continuing south east of Townsville, till we were 80miles off shore right in the middle of the marlin waters. No land in sight nothing but me, the ocean, big marlin and a Dip No 4, (nice spice flavours and good combustion ideal for a windy day on a boat fishing). The skipper had warned us that they normally get about 1 or max 2 fish a day. What is that all about I thought? I’m going to be bored shitless, that’s right 99% boredom 1% mayhem. I don’t like those stats I thought.

It wasn’t too long before we hit our first marlin and that 1% turned out to be a lot of fun. We tagged four marlin on the first day before we pulled in behind a reef to get out of the waves and enjoy the evening of a couple of cigars and dodgy rum, insert the word Bundaberg between dodgy and rum!

As I didn’t get to tag a marlin on the first day, the second day was all mine till I landed one. Yes that is me with the line and no fish, busted off again!!!

Did eventually land one, and it was on again for the rest of the day. In total we tagged and released 9 marlin, the skipper pointed out they had never caught so many in two days and all lived to fight another day.

Rob was rather envious as I was telling him the story last night, he tried to tell me that bass fishing can be just as much fun????

Are you kidding me, can bass kill you or do this?

OK Rob and FOH family the truth is this was actually the only fish I caught, damn it!!!
